🍿🎬 Popcorn & Cinema at Artis Senior Living of Boca Raton! 🧙‍♀️✨

It was a little spooky and a whole lot of fun as our residents enjoyed a movie day featuring the Halloween classic Hocus Pocus! 🎃👻

With popcorn in hand, smiles all around, and a little Sanderson sister magic on the screen, we enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of laughter, entertainment, and making memories together. 🧡🍿

It’s amazing how a good movie, a tasty snack, and time spent together can make an ordinary day feel extra special! 🖤💜

As dementia progresses, a person may lose the words for “I’m scared” or “my back hurts,” even as the feeling itself stays very real. That means someone else has to notice it for them. A change in expression. A shift in appetite. These small signals matter just as much as the obvious ones, and catching them early can spare a loved one from prolonged discomfort down the road. This is the heart of compassionate end-of-life care: paying close attention, trusting what you see, and responding with dignity and calm.

End-of-life is something most people don’t want to talk about. We often do not have the proper documents or discussions with our families when they are physically and cognitively able.

Join us for an informative program led by End-of-Life Doula Chelsea Duckers about ways to help ensure a dying person’s wishes are honored and everyone is prepared for the journey.

🎉🎂 Monthly Birthday Celebration at Artis of Boca! 🎂🎉

Every month is a reason to celebrate! 🥳🎈 We love gathering our residents to honor all those celebrating another trip around the sun! ☀️💖

Our birthday celebration was filled with lively music, delicious cupcakes, and a little bubbly fun as we popped our pretend ch*****ne! 🧁🥂🎶 There were smiles, laughter, and wonderful moments shared with friends as we made each birthday resident feel extra special.

At Artis of Boca, we believe every birthday deserves to be celebrated and every resident deserves to feel loved, appreciated, and cherished. ❤️

It’s National Physical Therapy Month, and we’re grateful for the hands that keep us moving.

Physical therapists help residents build strength, improve balance, and move through each day with confidence. This work shows up in real moments: finding steady footing on the dance floor, walking to dinner with a friend, gardening, painting, or pursuing a hobby brings them joy.

No matter where our residents are on their journey, physical therapists are there to celebrate the small wins as much as the big ones.

🎨 Creativity lives in the senses. By exploring texture, shape, color, and sound, we light up multiple pathways in the brain, each a new doorway to expression and connection on the dementia journey.

In October, we’re exploring Play as Imagination at Artis. Join us in celebrating the wonderfully weird decorative gourd. Smooth ones, bumpy ones, tall ones, round ones, inviting us to touch, create, and play. Wrap them in ribbon, turn them into shakers, sort them by size, or help build a gourd village.

However you participate, you belong at the table. Join us! 💙💙💙

Before they were Artis residents, many were teachers. They graded papers late into the night and helped kids believe in themselves. 🍎 Today, we’re honoring the educators who now call Artis home and their family members who still teach today!

Did a teacher change your life? Drop your favorite teacher's name in the comments, along with a lesson they shared along the way.

As days shorten, mood can dip and evenings can feel harder to settle into. For people living with dementia, this seasonal shift often intensifies confusion or unease as afternoon turns to evening, a pattern called “sundowning.”

At Artis, we build imaginative play into daily life to help ease that restlessness. A story can go anywhere. Roleplay can be anyone. Because nothing is being tested, residents often engage more freely, giving a toast at a family celebration or picking up a story mid-sentence and deciding where it goes next.

There’s no wrong way to join in – only a place for that energy to land. Read more about how Artis is encouraging imaginative play in October: 👉 https://artisseniorliving.com/blog/play-as-imagination-why-storytelling-and-roleplay-ease-one-of-dementias-toughest-seasons/
