This April, Boca Raton Fire Rescue is celebrating 100 years of β€œOld Betsy,” the City’s very first Fire Truck.

Arriving in 1926, Old Betsy marked the beginning of emergency medical service in our community. One hundred years later, that same commitment to serving and protecting lives on every day.

From where it started to where we are now, this milestone is a reminder of the history behind the service.

Help us celebrate 100 years. Have a favorite memory or piece of Boca history to share? Drop it in the comments.

Boca Raton Fire Rescue recently responded to an e-scooter battery fire that ignited while charging. E-bikes and e-scooters use lithium-ion batteries, which - if damaged or used improperly - can catch fire or explode.

IMPORTANT safety reminders:
β€’ Use only the charger and battery designed for your device
β€’ Stop charging once the battery is fully charged
β€’ Keep batteries away from heat, sunlight, and flammable materials
β€’ Watch for warning signs like overheating, swelling, or unusual odors
β€’ If a fire starts, get out immediately and call 911
