Twenty five years ago, a dedicated group of volunteers set out to transform an abandoned landfill in the corner of Teaneck into a place where people could connect with nature. That vision became the Teaneck Creek Conservancy, and today the site is known as the Teaneck Creek County Park.
Today, the Conservancy celebrated its 25th anniversary with a brunch honoring the people and organizations that have helped make this remarkable transformation possible. In a rare and special moment, all four living Bergen County Executives were in attendance, as County Executive Jim Tedesco was joined by Pat Schuber, Dennis McNerney, and Kathleen Donovan.
Special awards were presented to recognize those whose support has been instrumental to the Conservancy’s success, including Gladys Miller-Rosenstein and Neal Rosenstein on behalf of The Puffin Foundation, Ltd.; our own Bergen County Commissioner Germaine Ortiz; and Shinae Hyun on behalf of Teaneck Public Library.
Congratulations to everyone who has played a role in this incredible success story. What began as a vision to reclaim forgotten land has become one of Bergen County’s most unique environmental treasures. We look forward to seeing all that the Teaneck Creek Conservancy will accomplish in the next 25 years.
