This morning at 07:45 hrs the Bogota Fire Department was dispatched to an activated fire alarm on E Main St. Upon the arrival of Car 2, he observed smoke showing from the roof line. A working fire was transmitted immediately bringing in mutual aid to the scene and to cover our empty firehouse. Ladder 1 arrived and conducted a search of the 2nd floor apartment which found a well involved kitchen fire. Engine 1 arrived shortly after and stretched 300 ft of attack line to extinguish the fire, while Teaneck SQ23 supplied Engine 1 from a nearby hydrant. Minor extension above the ceiling area was found and also extinguished. Engine 2 and Mutual aid companies assisted with stretching a 2nd handline, ventilation, laddering the building and overhaul. Units remained on scene for 3 hours assisting in the fire investigation as well as assisting the residents with their belongings before being released. The fire is under investigation by the Bogota Fire Prevention Bureau.
We thank all of our mutual aid who are always extremely quick to respond to us.
This was another example why having working smoke/carbon monoxide detectors are so vital to have. The residents were awaken to the sound of their smoke alarm and were able to safely evacuate. Never take a “routine alarm” for granted as you never know whats awaiting.
