After reading The Messenger article exposing the leaked Islip Democrat group chat, I can no longer stay silent. I served as one of the moderators of the Meet the Candidates night, a volunteer role to ensure every candidate, regardless of party, had a fair and respectful opportunity to speak.

What I read in that chat was disgusting and disgraceful.

Rae Paoletta, Vice President of the Oakdale Civic Association, allegedly told me to “f**k off.” Her husband joined in with more disturbing comments. That behavior is unacceptable from anyone, especially from someone in civic leadership. Rae owes every civic association involved a public apology for her disgusting behavior and should step down immediately as Vice President. This hatred and hostility have no place in our community.

Irina Meri, an attorney, also participated in that same chat, mocking residents and displaying an alarming lack of ethics and professionalism.

Roberto “Poo” Muñoz was likewise tied to reprehensible remarks that speak for themselves. VP husband of Oakdale Civic

Garett Peterson, Vice Chairman of the Islip Town Democrats and a declared congressional candidate for New York’s 2nd District, added “Dog whistling to old whites.” That statement is divisive, offensive, and beneath anyone seeking public office.

Ken Colón, a member of the Islip Democrats’ Executive Committee and former candidate for Islip Town Supervisor, replied “The Rae campaign is gonna go crazzzzzzyyyy.” That kind of smug, gleeful tone in response to hateful comments shows exactly what’s wrong with the current political climate: arrogance over accountability.

These were not random online outbursts; they came from party leaders, civic officers, and professionals who should be setting the example for respectful civic engagement. Instead, they revealed contempt for residents and volunteers who care about fairness and integrity.

I stand by how I conducted myself that evening with respect, balance, and dignity. The civics who helped organize that event worked hard to make it fair and nonpartisan, and they deserve gratitude, not ridicule.

Our community deserves better than this.

We deserve leaders who lift people up, not tear them down.

We deserve civics that lead with respect, not hostility.

We deserve accountability not arrogance.

It’s time for residents to demand higher standards and for those in leadership positions to remember they serve the people, not their egos.

These are the friends and supporters of Kelly Perry. Will she denounce this disgusting behavior or support it?

Milynn

If you are oppose to the zone application for the KIA please feel free to use the draft letter and modify if necessary.

Dear Members of the Town Planning Board,

I am writing as a concerned resident of [Your Town/Community Name] to formally express my strong opposition to the proposed zoning change currently under review by the Town Board and Planning Department.

While the posted materials indicate that the site plan and zoning status may be subject to modification, the lack of clarity regarding the specific nature of the zone change (including its scope, purpose, and impact) raises significant concerns for the community. In the absence of transparent communication and detailed analysis, I must object on the following general grounds:

Potential Impact on Neighborhood Character
A zone change could fundamentally alter the established character of our neighborhood. Whether it involves increased density, commercial development in a residential area, or industrial uses near homes, such changes risk degrading the quality of life for long-standing residents.

Traffic, Safety, and Infrastructure Concerns
Increased development often leads to traffic congestion, parking shortages, and added pressure on existing infrastructure, including roads, water, and sewer systems. These changes could significantly impact pedestrian and vehicular safety.

Environmental and Ecological Risks
Zoning changes that allow for expanded development may lead to the loss of green space, increased pollution, and other environmental disturbances. Without a comprehensive environmental impact assessment, the potential harm to our ecosystem remains unknown but worrisome.

Precedent for Future Development
Approval of this zoning change could set a dangerous precedent for future development projects, potentially opening the door to further changes that prioritize developer interests over community needs.

I urge the Planning Board and Town Board to act in the interest of residents and uphold the existing zoning regulations, or at a minimum, defer any decision until a thorough public consultation and impact analysis are conducted.

Please consider this letter a formal objection and include it in the public record. I respectfully request to be notified of any upcoming hearings or decisions related to this zoning proposal.

Subject: Opposition to South Bay Village PDD Rezoning – Bohemia Civic Association
Dear Members of the Islip Planning Board,
On behalf of the Bohemia Civic Association, I am writing to strongly oppose the proposed zoning change for the Island Hills Golf Course property, now known as South Bay Village. This plan would increase the permitted housing density from 98 single-family homes to 890 residential units, an unprecedented 808% increase.
This scale of development poses serious consequences for our community, particularly the Connetquot Central School District. Based on accepted planning estimates, the project could result in 200–300 new students. The associated educational costs will significantly exceed the property tax revenue generated by the developer, especially if Rechler Equity Partners receives tax abatements through the IDA, as they have in other projects. This would shift the burden onto local taxpayers and strain already limited school resources, including special education services, which currently support about 20% of Connetquot students.
Beyond educational impacts, the project would:
Add over 1,500 vehicles, overwhelming local roads and intersections;
Strain emergency services without added funding or staff;
Compromise groundwater recharge and threaten environmental balance;
Challenge existing sewer and water infrastructure with no clear plan to mitigate those impacts.
This proposal is not smart growth. It disregards the Town’s existing zoning policies and the long-term interests of our residents. We respectfully urge the Planning Board to reject the proposed zone change and preserve the integrity and character of our community.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Bohemia Civic Association

🛑 YOU GET THREE MINUTES. USE THEM. 🛑

On Wednesday, July 16, you have a chance to speak directly to the Town of Islip Planning Board about one of the most dangerous proposals we’ve ever faced:
South Bay Village — the rebranded Island Hills mega-development.

📣 If you live here, this is your moment.
You get 3 minutes at the microphone to say:
🔺 No to 890 units
🚗 No to 400% traffic increases
🌧️ No to stormwater runoff in the Greens Creek watershed
🏫 No to overwhelming our schools and emergency services
🏘️ No to destroying the character of Sayville

📍WHERE: Town Hall West – 401 Main Street, Islip
🕔 WHEN: Protest at 5 PM | Planning Board Meeting at 6 PM
🎤 WHAT: Public hearing — everyone gets 3 minutes to speak
💥 WHY: This is the closest the developers have ever come to pushing this through. Your voice matters.

Fill the room. Flood the sign-up sheet. Don’t stay home.
We need hundreds to show up — and dozens to speak.

✊ Sayville is not for sale. Say it loud on July 16.
