Wheeless went to a mutual aid fire at the request of Union County New Mexico sheriff's office at Moses at 3:30 pm. There were some out buildings that burned.
All trucks returned to the station at 6 pm.

We would like to thank everyone that came out to support the Wheeless Fire Department and the Kenton Fire Department at our 4th of July fundraiser and all of the donations! We would like to thank everyone that has donated water, Gatorade, snacks, money, and other supplies to help during the last week. We are extremely thankful for our community. Please pray for rain!

Now that we have had a little time to take a breath, we want to take some time to thank everyone that was involved in helping with all the fires throughout the entire county and on into baca county. I am sure I will miss someone. Felt, Keyes, Kenton, Boise City, Griggs, Wheeless, Campo, Springfield, Rabbit Ear, Sedan, Dalhart, Sunray, Sherman County, Texhoma, Guymon, Hough, Stratford, Union County, Pritchett, Grady County, Logan County fire departments along with Cimarron County Districts 1, 2, and 3, Sherman County grader, Alpine Hotshots, OK, CO, and NM forestry, Boise City Farmers Coop, OEM, Goodwell EM, Union County EM, Dallam County EM, Dalhart EM, Cimarron County EM and the Red Cross. We also had so many incredible people bring water tanks, farm equipment, food, and so much more. This is an incredible community. We are very blessed to live in a place where everyone jumps in to help when needed.

A few pictures from the fire that happened south of Wheeless yesterday afternoon 5/14/26 with the help of Felt and Kenton, it was put out and then we headed to help with the fire south of Boise City getting back to the station around 12:30 am 5/15/26

For the next couple of days wildfire danger is high. Try to do your part to prevent flames or sparks from contacting the very dry fuels. If you see smoke don't hesitate to call 911.
