When we talk about a cleaner, healthier Boise, I think about our kids. The Boise School District, with grants from the Environmental Protection Agency's Clean School Bus Program, recently added eight electric school buses to their fleet. Climate and sustainability work isn’t just about big, distant goals. It’s about the everyday choices and investments that improve life for families right here in Boise.

Today, we dedicated improvements that make our World Trade Center Memorial more accessible and welcoming to everyone, because the memory of September 11, 2001 belongs to all of us. The memorial, featuring a 10-foot steel beam recovered from Ground Zero, was created by artist J. Amber Klinsky and originally dedicated in 2012.

This is a milestone event in our airport’s expansion, making sure that the infrastructure that welcomes people to our community keeps pace with the remarkable growth and economic opportunity we are experiencing.

For millions of travelers each year, the Boise Airport is the first introduction to our city and our region and many of those visitors will continue their journey from the airport in a rental car—whether they are coming here for a business meeting, a convention, a family vacation, an outdoor adventure or to explore whether Boise might someday become home.

The city and Zoo Boise worked together to translate 10 animal exhibits into Spanish, helping more families enjoy the zoo, learn about the animals, and experience this wonderful place in a language they feel most comfortable with.

The value of research isn't just that it tells us something about the future. Its value is that it helps us make a better decision today. That is where climate science becomes climate action. And ultimately, livability.

No single organization can solve the housing challenge alone. Progress happens through good growth policy and strong partnerships among builders, developers, community organizations, financial partners, and residents. I’m grateful to Hayden Homes for their role in building our community, and I can't wait to celebrate Hartwell Grove when it opens!
