The Bruneau and Owyhee Field Offices are amending the temporary closure dated August 10, 2026 by reducing the temporary closure. All public lands within the perimeter of the fire remain closed to the public.

⚠️🔥If you fly, we can't! Reminder that drones near wildfires are not safe.

Thinking of flying your drone or UAS near a wildfire? Think twice. It’s not just risky—it’s likely against the law, whether a Temporary Flight Restriction is in place or not.

When a drone’s spotted near a fire, ALL aircraft operations are halted until it’s safe to fly again. That means no air support for firefighters.

Suspending air operations could decrease the effectiveness of wildfire suppression operations, allowing wildfires to grow larger and, in some cases, unduly threaten lives, property, and valuable natural and cultural resources.

Thank you for helping us keep Idaho safe!

⚠️Reminder to check air quality and fire closures before visiting your public lands!

Even if you're far from an active wildfire, smoke can reduce visibility and create unhealthy air quality. Recreation conditions can change quickly as new fires emerge, existing fires grow, or smoke shifts with changing winds.

We're coordinating closely with the U.S. Wildland Fire Service to ensure the strongest possible response to wildfire activity. Do your part to keep yourself and your family safe by always checking conditions before heading out to public lands!

READY, SET, GO: Understand the three evacuation levels to keep your family safe from wildfire!

In Idaho, we follow a three-level evacuation notification system. Make sure you're signed up to receive emergency alerts from your county officials and that you know what each level means:

🟢Level one: READY
Pack your go-kit, sign up for emergency alerts with your county, and plan your possible evacuation routes.

🟡Level two: SET
Grab your go-kit, check the news for updates, and leave if you feel unsafe.

🔴Level three: GO
Leave without delay, do not stop to gather belongings or protect your home, and do not return until officials announce that the area is safe.

Due to the ongoing fire suppression and repair activities related to the Big Rock Fire, the area recreation and camping closures on BLM-managed lands in the Kelly Canyon, Heise, and River Road Areas have been extended through Sunday, August 16, 2026. The temporary closures were put in place at the onset of the Big Rock Fire and now set to expire 11:59 pm August 16 unless otherwise announced. These measures are necessary to provide protection to both the public and fire professionals as they travel along the Heise/S. Snake River/Kelly Canyon Roads.

Area closures related to Cress Creek Nature Trail and Stinking Springs trail, and all other hiking and biking trails in the Kelly Canyon and Heise areas remain in effect as well.

As the threat of wildfire danger continues to increase, the BLM Boise District and surrounding state and federal land management agencies will implement Stage 1 Fire Restrictions on lands within southwest Idaho effective August 7, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. Fire restrictions are intended to reduce the potential for human caused fires in the designated areas.

Stage 1 fire restrictions will be in place on federal, state and private forest and rangelands, roads, and trails, situated in Ada, Boise, Valley, Gem, Canyon, Elmore, Owyhee, Payette and Washington counties.

Stage 1 Fire Restrictions prohibit:
-Building or maintaining a wood-, charcoal-, or briquette-fueled fire outside of a permanent metal or concrete fire pit or grate that the Forest Service or BLM has installed and maintained at its developed recreation sites.

-Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, at a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material.
