𝗧𝗘𝗠𝗣 𝗖𝗟𝗢𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗘 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗢𝗔𝗗 𝟯𝟬𝟰

𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐝 𝟑𝟎𝟒 (𝐏𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐝), 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐝𝐚𝐡𝐨 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟖 𝐭𝐨 𝟏𝟗. The closure extends from Highway 21 to the junction with Forest Road 347 (Grayback Gulch Road) and is necessary to replace the bridge over Mores Creek.

The existing timber bridge, built in 1962, provides important access to federal and state public lands. The new steel-and-concrete bridge will be longer, improving stream flow beneath it and supporting more natural ecological function.

𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: 𝗣𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 – 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴

Fire crews are continuing daily patrols on the Poorman Prescribed Fire, located about 4 miles southeast of Crouch. You may still see occasional smoke as grasses and other light fuels dry out and burn.

Because May has been unusually dry, firefighters will be widening and reinforcing existing containment lines by carefully burning small strips of lighter fuels along the edges. These operations are planned to begin tomorrow and may result in increased visible smoke.

𝗪𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. (or later if needed) at the Garden Valley Senior Center, 261 S. Middlefork Rd., Garden Valley, ID 83622. Community members are encouraged to stop by, ask questions, and learn more about ongoing operations.

The Poorman Prescribed Fire was ignited in late April and covers 2,692 acres. Prescribed fires are an important forest management tool that help reduce the risk of severe wildfires to nearby communities and support overall forest health.

𝗧𝗘𝗠𝗣 𝗖𝗟𝗢𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗘: 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝟰𝟱𝟲

Forest Service Road 456 (Golden Gate Road), located about two miles south of Yellow Pine, is temporarily closed for public safety due to mineral exploration drilling.

The 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟮 at 8 p.m. and applies to all uses, including foot traffic. This work is part of the Horse Heaven Exploration Project.

𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗗𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗘 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 – 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟲, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, 𝟲 𝗽.𝗺.

Recent lightning and strong winds over the forest have resulted in several new small fires. Here’s the latest:

𝗠𝗠𝟯𝟬 𝗛𝗪𝗬𝟭𝟳: Located 1 mile west of Lowman. Size: 0.1 acres. Status: 𝗢𝗨𝗧.

𝗔𝗟𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗘: Located 12 miles northeast of Cascade. Size: 0.1 acres. Status: 𝗢𝗨𝗧.

𝗗𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗪𝗢𝗢𝗗: Located 0.5 miles east of Deadwood Reservoir. Size: 32 acres. Status: 𝟭𝟬𝟬% 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗗. Two handcrews and two engines remain on scene and will continue strengthening containment lines toward Controlled status, expected by Friday.

𝗚𝗢𝗟𝗗𝗘𝗡: First detected Monday evening south of Yellow Pine. Rain suppressed the fire overnight, and was undetectable during a morning helicopter flight. Late this afternoon, small intermittent smokes reappeared. An engine crew has begun sawing their way to the fire.

𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:
CONTAINED: Firefighters have established a fireline around the entire perimeter.
CONTROLLED: Containment lines are reinforced so remaining heat has little to no chance of escape.
OUT: No heat remains within the perimeter.

GRANITE FIRE UPDATE
May 21, 2026 @ 3:00 p.m.

Fire crews stopped the Granite Fire’s forward spread late yesterday, and the fire was declared contained this afternoon at just under eight acres. Containment means firefighters have established a control line around the entire perimeter.

Crews are continuing to mop up today, using hoses and hand tools to put out remaining hot spots. They expect to declare the fire controlled tomorrow, once all heat sources near the perimeter are fully extinguished and there’s no risk of the fire escaping.

This will be our final update unless conditions change.

Boise National Forest
NEW FIRE ALERT-May 20, 2026

A new fire named the Granite Fire was reported around 3:30 this afternoon roughly 3 miles northwest of Garden Valley. The fire is located off of Forest Road 668.

Currently the fire is estimated to be 5 acres. Engines, crews, and a helicopter are on scene or responding. More information will be posted when available.

NOTE: This wildfire is not connected to the Poorman Prescribed Fire that occurred in late April a few miles away. Smoke could be seen from the Poorman Prescribed Fire today coming from isolated pockets of heavy logs still being consumed well within the project’s interior.

𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲: 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱

Pine Flats Campground (3.5 miles west of Lowman) will be 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟮 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟯𝟬, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, while contractors remove dead and dying trees that pose safety hazards.

𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗛𝗼𝘁 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻, but it will 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗣𝗮𝘆𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 during this time.

In recent years, insects have severely impacted trees in and around the campground. Many have died or become structurally weakened, increasing the risk of falling, especially during windy conditions. The number of hazardous trees is far beyond what we typically see during annual inspections, so a large scale removal operation is required.

Because this work involves heavy equipment, tree felling, and log stacking, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆.

𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:
•Guests with reservations through June 2 will be contacted and fully refunded.
•If tree removal work extends beyond that date, we will refund and notify any additional reservation holders.
•We know it’s disappointing to have reservations canceled, but this temporary closure is needed to allow crews the time and space needed to address hazard trees for visitor’s safety.

If the work is completed early, we will lift the closure and post an update here.

𝗟𝗼𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗕𝗼𝗴𝘂𝘀 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻 – 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆

Beginning 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟭, the Deer Point Forest Stewardship Project, located about 1 mile south of Bogus Basin, will resume its second season of logging and forest restoration work. This project reduces the risk of catastrophic wildfire and addresses insect and disease concerns along the Boise Foothills. For everyone’s safety, several temporary road, trail, and area closures will be in effect.

𝗕𝗼𝗴𝘂𝘀 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 – 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟭𝟵
Starting at about mile marker 13, Bogus Basin Road will be 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗹𝗹 🚗𝘃𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲, 🚴𝗯𝗶𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 🚶‍♀️𝗽𝗲𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰 during the following times:
• 8–11 a.m.
• 1–3 p.m.
The road will remain 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆.

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹, 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗿𝗲𝗮 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 – 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆
From𝟲 𝗮.𝗺. 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝟲 𝗽.𝗺. 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 (through June 19), the following trail, road and National Forest lands will be closed. They will 𝗻𝗼𝘁 be open weekday evenings; weekend access only.
