Serve Idaho is the Governor’s Commission on Service and Volunteerism. Serve Idaho accomplishes its mission through promoting volunteerism specifically volunteerism as a pathway to employment, and also through the administration of the AmeriCorps state grants in Idaho. AmeriCorps is often referred to as a “domestic Peace Corps”, allowing members to serve their community and in exchange receive a living stipend and education award.

Culture For Change Foundation in Twin Falls is recruiting an AmeriCorps VISTA to serve as the youth education and food security program coordinator VISTA. They will build organizational capacity to support low-income youth and families by developing structured systems for after-school tutoring, homework support, volunteer training, food pantry access and program sustainability.

The YWCA in Lewiston is recruiting an AmeriCorps VISTA to serve as the financial empowerment coordinator. The VISTA will research and develop a trauma-informed financial empowerment program that strengthens supportive services for survivors of domestic violence. The VISTA member will create practical tools and resources that complement advocacy services and support survivors in planning for long-term financial stability and safety.

Advocates Against Family Violence is looking for an AmeriCorps VISTA to build capacity to support low-income survivors of domestic violence in rural underserved communities by developing outreach assessment tools, referral directory systems, partnership tracking processes, rural hub documentation and grant development resources.

AmeriCorps member Julia Albertson serves at Moscow Adventure Club and taught a lesson about predator prey population dynamics. "This was a lesson I was excited to teach because I have a strong background in this from my education," Albertson said.

Since September 2025, University of Idaho Extension 4-H Youth Development STEM Corps volunteers have served 640 youth across Idaho. Programming has focused on youth engagement, confidence and skill development through hands-on STEM programming. One member shared it's wonderful to see kids see something work that they put together. The member emphasized how building and testing robot designs fostered persistence and excitement for learning.

As part of the program, AmeriCorps volunteers perform individual service projects in their communities including pro bono physical therapy, trash clean up, blood donation and self-care kit assembly.

AmeriCorps member Austin Schmahl serves at the Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute (PCEI) and was also heavily involved with transplanting week at PCEI Nursery. Volunteers planted over 2,000 native plants to be used at restoration sites. Outside the usual volunteer groups, there were volunteers from Ghana, the Philippines, Ireland, South Africa and Canada who helped with the planting.

AmeriCorps members serving through Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute (PCEI) have provided conservation education to over 5,300 youth. "A memorable experience was with a 10-year old boy, who hovered around my telescope the whole event. He asked me so many questions about space, and I described these objects without using the scientific jargon that I've become so accustomed to," Leah Rogers who serves at the Idaho Dark Sky Reserve said. "I was happy I was able to show him the universe with telescopes I didn't have at his age."

members have provided 139 health screenings, 14 dental screenings and eight physical therapy evaluations to rural community members. "Providing access to care for patients in rural communities has always been close to my heart, as I am from a smaller town and had to travel for healthcare needs," AmeriCorps member Carley Church said.
