Idaho Guard & Reserve Family Support Fund

Idaho Guard & Reserve Family Support Fund Since 2004, over 1900 Idaho Service Members and families have been assisted with emergency needs

Created in 2004 at the direction of then Governor Kempthorne and the then Adjutant General of the State of Idaho, the Idaho Guard & Reserve Family Support Fund, Inc. is an Idaho registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit and was created as a Mission-Readiness fund; service members who are worried about finances and their family's immediate financial needs are less focused on supporting and defending our state

and country. The Fund was created just as Idaho’s 116th Cavalry Brigade Army National Guard members were preparing to deploy for the first time, which for some created a financial hardship for their families. With a generous grant from the Katherine Albertson’s Foundation, the Fund was able to immediately assist Idaho Army Guard Members and their families. The name was changed after the 116th returned in 2005, recognizing the need to provide emergency financial assistance state-wide to all Idaho Guard and Reservist Service Members. The Fund currently serves Idaho Army National Guard, Idaho Air National Guard, Idaho Army Reserves, Idaho Navy Reserves, and Idaho Marine Reserves by providing grants and zero interest loans. The Fund pays for rent, utilities, food, gas, medical emergency travel, and much, much more. Since its inception, the Fund has distributed over $2 million to Idaho Guard Members and Reservists and their families and remains a vibrant and necessary part of the military community. The Fund strives to be self-sufficient, and does this by redistributing repaid loans, receiving donations from the Idaho Income Tax Form 40, the Combined Federal Campaign, United Way, fundraising, and individual contributions. As you prepare to do your annual Taxes, be sure to consider donating part of your return!

Important Notice for Idaho National Guard Soldiers and Families: No Drill September/October and Impact on Benefits:

For some units across the Idaho National Guard there will be no drill in September and/or in October. This may affect your TriCare Dental Program (TDP) and SGLI (Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance) payments. Here’s what you need to know:

TriCare Dental Program:
Without a drill in September or October, there won’t be a Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) for that corresponding month, which means your usual dental premium won't be automatically deducted and you will be automatically enrolled into paper billing. To avoid a lapse in coverage, please check your payment method or contact United Concordia TriCare Dental directly to make sure your premium is paid.

SGLI Payments:
SGLI payments also won’t be deducted from your LES for any month you are not at drill. Be aware that you might see a double SGLI deduction in your first LES following the next completed drill to cover premiums from any non drilling month as well as the current month responsibility. Please plan accordingly!

Tip: Drill schedules change, emergencies come up, life happens – the last thing you need is to worry about lapsed insurance coverage. For this reason we strongly encourage service members to arrange for their TDP premiums to be paid as an EFT from their debit/bank account vs via an allotment from their LES. Need help with this - give your Military & Family Readiness Specialist (MFRS) a call! We want to ensure there’s no disruption to your benefits! https://www.imd.idaho.gov/idaho-national-guard/family-programs/service-and-family-readiness-program/

Do you and your family depend on your drill pay to cover your TriCare Health Insurance premiums? Will missing a drill place you and your family in a position to not be able to cover your premium?
