On August 10, just before 8 p.m., Boise firefighters responded to reports of a structure fire on the 4800 block of N. Sunderland Drive. Engine 4 arrived on scene to find a two-story duplex with heavy fire coming from the back of the home on both sides of the duplex. The call was upgraded to a full assignment, with multiple engines and medics responding.
Additional crews conducted a search of the residence while others secured a water supply. Firefighters attacked the fire from multiple sides of the structure and were able to extinguish the blaze.
One resident was transported to the hospital, and one cat was lost in the fire. Boise Fire remained on scene for several hours to ensure all remaining hot spots were extinguished and that the fire had not spread further into the home.
“This call came in at 7:53 p.m., we had crews on scene by 7:58 p.m., and the fire was under control by 9:11 p.m. This is a prime example of the efficiency and professionalism of Boise firefighters, who were able to quickly put a stop to a rapidly growing fire before it could cause further damage or spread to neighboring homes. It’s teamwork at its finest,” said Boise Fire Chief Aaron Hummel.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the Boise Fire Burnout Fund was called in to assist those who were displaced. Responding Boise Fire units included Engine 4, Engine 6, Engine 10, Engine 11, Engine 13, Engine 16, Ladder 5 and Truck 4. Boise Police and Ada County Paramedics also responded to the call.
