What began as an area with significant infrastructure needs has grown, and continues to grow, into an important hub for Boise’s industrial economy, and public investment has helped make that growth possible.

Through improvements to roads, utilities and other public infrastructure, the Gateway East Urban Renewal District has fostered the conditions for businesses to locate, expand, and invest in Boise. That means more opportunities for jobs, more economic activity, and a stronger foundation for the businesses that keep our community moving.

The impact of urban renewal can sometimes be hard to see in a single project. But step back and look at a district over time, and the ripple effects become clear: public investment helps unlock private investment, support jobs, and build a healthier, more resilient local economy.

Improvements are coming to the 9th & Front ParkBOI Parking Garage.

Beginning September 1, 2026, crews will start work to enclose the garage stair towers and modernize the elevators, improving safety, reliability, and long-term durability.

Construction will occur in two phases:
Phase 1: Work on the west stair tower and elevators. The east stair tower and elevators will remain open.
Phase 2: Work will shift to the east stair tower and elevators.

Please follow posted pedestrian and vehicle detours and allow extra time when navigating the garage during construction.

Completion is expected winter 2027.

Capitol Boulevard has been transformed into a more connected downtown gateway.

Once a vehicle-focused corridor, it now better supports how people move through Boise today: walking, biking, and transit included.

This multi-year effort included major underground infrastructure upgrades, followed by new sidewalks, a protected bike lane, safer crossings, green stormwater features, and an improved bus stop.

Delivery required close coordination, community input, and navigating real-world challenges along an active downtown corridor.

A stronger first impression of downtown Boise, built through partnership and persistence.

Swipe to walk through the whole process.

What was the corridor like before construction?

What was the corridor like before construction?

A lot of work happened underground.

And a lot of improvements were made above ground.

Now the corridor is built for how Boise moves today.

Collaborate. Create. Develop. Complete.

What does urban renewal actually do?

At its core, urban renewal is about making strategic public investments that help communities grow and thrive.

That might mean rebuilding streets and sidewalks so people can walk, bike, and drive safely. It might mean creating parks, plazas, and gathering spaces where people actually want to spend time. It might mean partnering with local businesses and developers to bring new housing, jobs, and investment to a neighborhood.

And often, it means tackling the infrastructure and connections that make all of those things possible.

From parking lot to public park. 🌿✨

One year ago, Kaixo Corner transformed a former surface parking lot on Grove Street into a welcoming gathering space in the heart of downtown Boise.

Located near the Basque Block, Kaixo Corner celebrates the history and culture of the neighborhood through public art, open space, and intentional design. The park’s name, meaning “hello” in Basque, reflects the spirit of connection and community that has built this area for generations.

Today, Kaixo Corner provides a place to gather, relax, enjoy local businesses, and experience the energy of the revitalized Grove Street corridor.
