UPDATE

We contacted IDOT yesterday and shared our concerns about the traffic backup and the inconvenience it is causing our residents and visitors. They understood our concerns and were able to make the following changes

The Painting contractor came in early (4 am) to complete the work they needed the double lane closure for and are already off the road. When they come back from the holiday weekend they will be switching to night work which will avoid this specific daytime impact.

PLEASE NOTE: Lane Closures on Route 53

Over the next few weeks, crews will be on-site at the Illinois Route 53 and I-55 interchange to paint the remainder of the bridge beams. Expect one lane of 53 (beginning June 26 with southbound) to close between the hours of 8:30am-4:30pm to accommodate the work.

It was a gorgeous day for the 40th Annual Village Picnic!

Check out this awesome highlight reel from Bolingbrook Community Television.

Thank you to all of the residents who attended, organizations who participated, and of course to the Civic and Cultural Affairs Commission who plans the event each year. Thanks for all your hard work.

Weekly Wrap from Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta of The Village of Bolingbrook

I can’t believe it’s the last week of June, and we’re already gearing up for our 4th of July Celebration at the Bolingbrook Golf Club! I always get excited for this event, and this year we’ve added even more ways to enjoy the day. One of those ways is to reserve a VIP viewing spot for entertainment and fireworks. Check out the Eventbrite by the Bolingbrook Golf Club for details: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/july-4th-reserved-vip-spots-tickets-925443164417?aff=oddtdtcreator&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR2N1YN7kIL4-IVKU3v0FBBYMOzYVqlLH6dfWtZF4_mQoAf0E8nSeRKcyEM_aem_33vDSmhoMIRWh_Te8HNrtw

The Bolingbrook Golf Club always has a lot going on, especially in the summer, but this year especially as we’re preparing for LIV Golf to host the Individual Championship Tournament in September. To better understand the event that will be making its way to Bolingbrook, we took a trip to Nashville this past weekend to experience it firsthand. The energy was incredible, and the tournament hosted first-class entertainment. I am looking forward to the opportunity for so many visitors to come to Bolingbrook and see why we are such an incredible community.

A big reason I believe we have a great community is because of our staff. Throughout the week, we were able to celebrate with various departments for a variety of reasons. On Monday, we welcomed a new officer to the Bolingbrook Police Department. Congratulations Ashley Johnson, and welcome to the family!

Wednesday I was able to enjoy some time with our Bolingbrook Public Works Department during the annual Public Works Appreciation Lunch. Often hidden in plain sight, this department does much of the day-to-day work that keeps our Village running smoothly!

Bright and early this morning, we went to Fire Station 1 for the walk-out ceremony of John Moreno after 26 years of service to the Bolingbrook Fire Department. Congratulations on your retirement, and we wish you well.

That wasn’t the only retirement this week. Today, Village Engineer Tom Pawlowicz is working his last day after 38 years of service. Congratulations!

Our staff is constantly working to make Bolingbrook the best place to live, work, and play for both residents and businesses. This week I sat down with our Village Attorney and Director of Community Development to discuss the ordinances we have in place for business hours of operation. Any time there is a change to any ordinance we have in place, it needs to go to the Board for approval. This happens at our Public Board Meetings. I invite residents to attend those meetings to understand more what’s happening in Bolingbrook, and to let your voice be heard.

In addition to the internal meetings, we are always working with other agencies. This week DuPage Township Leadership came in with their new attorneys to discuss plans they have for the future.

Director of Community Development Matt Eastman and I also attended the Will County Board’s Business After Hours event. This was to discuss how we can work better together to ensure the residents of Will County benefit from any economic development and transportation updates.

Hope to see you all at the annual Village Picnic on Sunday. Have a great weekend!

Today at Town Center!

The Accessible Icon Project created a new icon depicting a wheelchair user propelling themselves forward, representing that people with disabilities are active and on the move.

Thanks to resident Allaina Humphreys, her work and advocacy for accessibility led the Village of Bolingbrook to embrace the change and be one of the first to adopt the new icon at all village-owned properties!

Members of the Police Department took their turn at painting some of the spaces outside their doors.

Thank you to the Bolingbrook Public Works Department as well as other community volunteers for their work in updating the parking stalls and signs.

Weekly Wrap from Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta of The Village of Bolingbrook

Yesterday was the first day of summer, and it sure has felt like it! The heat and humidity we’ve had is expected to continue, so be sure to stay safe in these temperatures. The Village, and the County, offer cooling centers. You can find more information here: https://www.bolingbrook.com/coolingcenters

This past weekend, the Village of Bolingbrook held its 10th annual Juneteenth Celebration. The event highlighted entertainment, food, and brought organizations together to give back to the community. Free haircuts were given to youth, health initiatives were highlighted, and special awards were presented. Congratulations to Lawrence Cooper for being recognized for pioneering the Village of Bolingbrook’s Juneteenth celebration and dedicating nine years to an event that enriches our community. And congratulations to this year’s organizers on a successful event!

Before spending the day at that festival, CIO James Farrell and I joined Alpha Phi Alpha at the Bolingbrook Golf Club for their annual scholarship and leadership awards luncheon. I’m very grateful to be honored among five community and academic leaders.

Monday morning, we started at Masjid Al-Jumu’ah for Eid al-Adha. As always, thank you to the mosque and our Muslim community for the hospitality during this celebration.

It’s the season of golf outings! Monday, Rainbow Council hosted their fundraiser at the Bolingbrook Golf Club, and today is the Bo Jackson Charity Golf Outing. Not only was I able to stop by the course for both events, but we also had the pleasure of attending a special event last night in preparation for today’s outing.

Some meetings this week included sitting down with current and future businesses to talk about their plans, discussing upcoming events with the Civic and Cultural Affairs Commission, and meeting internally with various departments for updates.

Additionally, a Village Board Meeting took place on Tuesday where we appointed Clay Shipley of Veenstra & Kimm as Village Engineer. Congratulations!

There were a few other personnel changes to highlight this week within the Bolingbrook Police Department. Due to retirements, there were open positions to which some of our staff were promoted. Congratulations to Pat Kinsella on your promotion from Sergeant to Lieutenant and to officers Aaron Gieser and James Albright on your promotions to Sergeant!

Everything we do on a day-to-day basis is for the purpose of serving the residents, and I love when we can partner with other organizations to do just that. On Wednesday, Nicor Gas hosted a pop-up produce stand at the Community Center that gave over 200 families free produce as well as information about energy efficiency and resources to support them.

The Will County Governmental League hosted a member meeting in Joliet on Thursday. Administrator Ken Teppel and I attended to learn about end of session legislative updates. Nicor also gave a presentation on current and future programs for commercial and residential customers.

Enjoy your weekend!

As this will inconvenience motorists, it is suggested to take an alternate route during those morning hours.

Weekly Wrap from Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta of The Village of Bolingbrook

There are some weeks that I look back and cannot believe how many events, meetings, celebrations, competitions, and various other community engagements we were able to attend!

Last weekend the Bolingbrook Lions Club hosted the Annual Beep Baseball Tournament. Drawing athletes from all over, the tournament is a version of baseball for visually impaired individuals. Congrats to Indy Thunder on winning the 2024 Championship, and great job to the Bolingbrook Lions Club on another successful event!

Another sporting event I had the pleasure of attending was the Bolingbrook Soccer Club’s in house championship for their young Raiders. Thanks to Khalid Soliman for the invite!

Piyesta Pinoy returned to Town Center for an exciting festival celebrating Philippines Independence Day! It was an incredibly successful event with performances, food, and activities for the whole family.

There were many opportunities for us to engage with and support our youth this week. Focuos celebrated kindergarten and 8th grade graduates. I love being involved with this organization year-round, and this was the perfect way to celebrate some of the individuals!

There were also participants from Focuos took part in Camp EmpowHER. Congratulations to the Bolingbrook Fire Department on a successful third year of this camp geared toward young ladies. On Monday morning, I got to visit for the kick-off of the event, and I also attended the graduation ceremony on Wednesday to celebrate all the girls that participated.

While that camp was taking place at Community Center, the Cub Scouts were visiting Town Center. The summer is a great time for these kids to experience different areas in town and learn about things in their community.

And you’re never too old to stop learning about and engaging in your community! We offer so many different platforms and avenues you can do just that. Coffee with the Chiefs was hosted at Fire Station #4 on Tuesday. This gives an opportunity for residents to communicate directly with our Public Safety Staff.

I hosted Bolingbrook resident, Joe Tackett, on Monday for a “Morning with the Mayor”. I’d like to think it was an eye-opening experience for him to understand some things that are taking place currently and coming up soon in the Village of Bolingbrook.

This week, I was proudly sworn in to the Bolingbrook Rotary Club. The purpose of the club is to serve the community, one of my biggest passions!

That passion is the reason we originally put together the Bolingbrook Non-Profit Coalition. Members of the Coalition include representatives from The LaBranche Family Foundation, 4 Kids Sake, Angelic Kindness Charity, United Way of Will County, DUCAP, Chi-Care, and the Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber was busy this week as it was their annual golf outing hosted at the Bolingbrook Golf Club. This provides an opportunity for our business community to market themselves, network with one another, and have a little fun in the sun in the process.

The Bolingbrook Golf Club is a wonderful venue for all these events. Some of the big events coming up are the annual 4th of July Celebration as well as LIV Golf Chicago in September. This week, we sat down on two separate occasions to discuss details regarding those respective events. Stay tuned for details regarding the 4th of July but mark your calendars now! Grounds will open at 3pm on Thursday, July 4th with fireworks scheduled just after dusk.

Other meetings this week included meeting with Dr. Mary Bell regarding a women’s summit, the Greater Chicago Truck Plaza discussing future plans, and Special Olympics Illinois for partnership opportunities.

On Thursday Administrators Ken Teppel and Lucas Rickelman along with Director of Community Development Matt Eastman and Grant Coordinator Ditas Felicidad Vidad joined me for Will County Center for Economic Development’s Eye Opener Breakfast. They highlighted many of the development achievements over the past year in the county.

That evening, we ended the day in Evergreen Park where our Village Attorney’s office is located. Odelson, Murphey, Frazier & McGrath Ltd. hosted a client meet and greet. It was the perfect summer night.

It’s back-to-back weekends at Town Center for events. This week our volunteers put together gift bags for the first 200 attendees that come to the Juneteenth Celebration tomorrow! I hope you join us at Town Center, June 15th from 12pm to 9pm. See details below!

Weekly Wrap from Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta of The Village of Bolingbrook

It was a busy week that truly felt like the kick-off to summer!

Last Saturday we started the month by recognizing Pride Month with a flag raising at Town Center. Thank you to Bolingbrook Pride for your work to continue to make Bolingbrook an inclusive community!

Then it was over to the Cavalcade of Planes at Clow International Airport. While the weather deterred some people on Saturday, the two-day event brought tens of thousands of visitors to Bolingbrook! Congratulations to the airport on an extremely successful event.

There were multiple grand openings and ribbon cuttings throughout the week. On Wednesday, we unveiled the new permanent pavilion, just in time for the first Wednesday Night Summer Concert. Thank you to State Representative Natalie Manley for securing the funds to make this project possible.

Thursday, we welcomed CubeSmart Self Storage to Bolingbrook with a Ribbon Cutting hosted by the Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce. The new facility offers many sizes of storage units for customers to rent. You can find them at 509 E Boughton Rd.

Then today, Chi Tea officially opened to the public. Already loved at their other locations, we’re so excited to have them join the Bolingbrook community. While the name suggests a tea place (which they have a wonderful menu) the restaurant also offers burgers, chicken sandwiches, and other food. Visit them at 1242 W Boughton Rd.

Not only did we celebrate new business in town, but I was also able to join the Turano family at their Bolingbrook location. Administrators Ken Teppel and Lucas Rickelman, Director of Community Development Matt Eastman, and I toured the facility located on Saint James Gate on Tuesday.

As always, it was important to meet internally as well as with businesses and residents. With it being the first week of the month, our leadership team gathered to discuss all projects. I also met with a few departments individually, with business owners, and with a few residents to keep communication open.

There were plenty of opportunities to get outside this week with the wonderful weather! Our Bolingbrook Police Department participated in the annual Torch Run for Special Olympics. This year the department has raised more than $20,000 for Special Olympics Illinois!

Another annual fundraiser that took place this week was the Valley View Education and Enrichment Foundation’s golf outing hosted at the Bolingbrook Golf Club. This foundation exists to raise funds for scholarships.

We’re gearing up for an incredible weekend including Piyesta Pinoy hosted at Town Center tomorrow! The organizers stopped by today to finalize some details and brought a few special guests. Justin and Jeremy Garcia are aspiring twin singers from California, and will be on season 25 of the voice. They will also be performing tomorrow at Piyesta Pinoy!

Hope to see you there, and have a great weekend!

Weekly Wrap from Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta of The Village of Bolingbrook

The shortened work week started with a Bolingbrook tradition honoring fallen soldiers. Three Memorial Day services were held throughout the village on Monday morning. The Board of Trustees, other village staff, and elected officials along with the Bolingbrook Police Department and Bolingbrook Fire Department joined Representatives of Bolingbrook VFW Post #5917, American Legion Post 1288, the Sons of the American Legion and the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of America in honoring American Heroes at multiple Memorial Day Ceremonies. I’m forever thankful to those that gave their lives for our country, and I’m grateful Bolingbrook continues the tradition of honoring them on Memorial Day.

While I was out of town, Deputy Mayor Michael Lawler ran the regularly scheduled Board Meeting on Tuesday. A couple of important proclamations were presented including one for the upcoming Beep Baseball Tournament and another recognizing Pride Month in Bolingbrook.

Along with Pride Month, there will be a flag raising in front of Town Center tomorrow morning (Saturday, June 1st) at 8am hosted by Bolingbrook Pride. See the event link below for more details.

This week Administrator Ken Teppel, Fire Chief Jeff LaJoie, and our Grant Coordinator Ditas Mesina Vidad visited Naperville Fire Department as they conducted training. It’s extremely beneficial to work with neighboring municipalities to share best practices, allowing us to best serve our residents.

Last night Focuos hosted their annual Gala celebrating 5 years at the Bolingbrook Golf Club. I love this organization as youth are near to my heart. While I was unable to be there, fortunately I was able to send them a message of encouragement in advance, and many of our other Bolingbrook elected officials were in attendance.

Today members of the Bolingbrook Police Department and Bolingbrook Fire Department supported the Dunkin’ store at 245 S Bolingbrook Dr as they celebrated reopening after a remodel with a ribbon cutting. Congratulations!

An update to our pond restoration project: crews have been working diligently when the weather cooperates! The area behind Town Center will be beautiful for all the summer festivals. See below for some of the upcoming events, including our first Wednesday Night Summer Concert next week!

Have a great weekend.
