UPDATE 9:20 p.m. Sunday, July 5

The Bolivar Police Department and Bolivar City Fire Department responded to a separate threat call at a business in the 600 block of South Albany Avenue at around 8:45 p.m.

The threat was investigated, and there was no danger to the business or the people in it. The call also appears to be a swatting call.

A secondary search of the building confirmed that there were no shots fired and no one injured in the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.

First responders have reopened the store parking lot and will return the store to employees to reopen at around 8:20 p.m.

Anyone who left a vehicle or personal items at the store will be able to return and gather their belongings.

We appreciate your patience as we worked to clear the scene!

7:45 p.m. Sunday, July 5

The Bolivar Police Department, Bolivar City Fire Department, and other first responders responded to Walmart in the 2400 block of South Springfield Avenue at around 6:53 p.m. Sunday, July 5, for reports of a threatening phone call made to 911 Polk County Central Dispatch.

The person who called 911 made threats to the business and people in the store.

An initial investigation shows that no one has been injured and no shots were fired in or near the store. It appears to be a swatting call.

Officers are conducting a secondary search of the building to confirm no one has been hurt.

Law enforcement is also following up on leads to identify the person who made the initial phone call.

We'll share more information as it becomes available.

Public Service Announcement!

FRIENDLY REMINDER: We're less than a week away from the permitted fireworks season in Bolivar!

🇺🇸 Consumer fireworks will be allowed within city limits from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, through Saturday, July 4. 🇺🇸

Here are some requirements for fireworks use in Bolivar:

🔴 No floating lanterns allowed within city limits.

🔵 No fireworks in city parks, within 300 feet of a gas station or within 500 feet of any fireworks stand, public gathering or public building.

🔴 No fireworks if burn ban has been issued by the Bolivar City Fire Department.

🔵 Must use fireworks in a "careful and prudent" manner.

🔴 Adult supervision required for children 18 and younger.

On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, we proudly celebrated the ribbon cutting of our new Polk County Central Dispatch facility; an incredible milestone years in the making.

This moment represents far more than a new building. It reflects the dedication, resilience, and teamwork of so many who believe in the mission of public safety and the importance of serving our community at the highest level.

We are deeply grateful to our public safety partners for standing beside us; not only during this event, but every single day. Your commitment, collaboration, and shared purpose are what make our work possible, and we are honored to serve alongside each of you.

A special thank you to 57th Governor Mike Parson, Senator Lincoln Hough, and Senator Sandy Crawford for your continued support and for helping make this vision a reality. Your investment in public safety has left a lasting impact on our community.
