Hardeman County Assessor of Property

Tangible Personal Property is required to be assessed by state law. I’ve heard recently that some people think this is just a way to raise taxes on businesses in Hardeman County. This is NOT true!! It’s state law and all 95 counties in the state of TN do this. Please see the attached link that gives more information. The schedules are due back in to the Assessors office by March 1st per state law.

The Hardeman County Assessor of Property office will close today at 1:00 so that we can pay our respects and attend the funeral of our dear friend and colleague Tracy Byrum. We will resume normal business hours tomorrow. Please keep Tracy’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. She will certainly be missed by all her knew and loved her.

Hiring!!! Position of Field Appraiser!
Purpose of job- Assist the Assessor of Property office with the collection,listing,measuring, classifying, and checking of all real property within the boundary of Hardeman County.
Assist in the valuing of real property for ad valorem taxation purposes through the use of accepted appraisal standards set by the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) the State of TN division of Property Assessment (DPA) and the Hardeman County Assessor of Property.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-
Performs physical property inspections,desktop review inspections,collects and analyzes land and improvement data,measures,draws, and list improvements to properties and prepares property appraisal reports.
Creates and maintains files and computer records of assessment maps and other documents.
Responsible for conducting state mandated visual inspections on each parcel in the county.
Follows up on building permits, mobile home titles, state electrical reports, fire reports and other sources of building and improvement data.
Updates and maintains property characteristics file and corrects errors as discovered.
Operates a department motor vehicle to conduct on site property inspections.
Must be able to read a tape measure!
Must have a valid TN drivers license!
Must be able to read and follow a map!
