🚨"WHO ARE OUR VOLUNTEERS "🚨

Danny Burdick

If you don't know our next volunteer, you haven't been a part of the community for long, or you've been asleep the whole time. Danny joined our department to help the community in whatever way he could on February 27, 2011, making him a 15 year member. Danny has always been the most caring and respectful person that he can possibly be. If you are good to him and go more than a week without seeing him, his first words to you will always be "Hello (name)", followed by "You doing okay?" and he means it, he's not just being polite. A concept lost to most people, but never Danny. Being kind to adults isn't his only vice, he also loves kids. If you're a young child there's always a dollar or some change in his pocket with your name on it. He can always be counted on to show up at any function to assist in the kitchen. Keeping coffee made and attending to customer orders is never a problem when Danny is around. He will also help us prepare food, cook food, and serve customers. Outside of the kitchen, he will also wash and help put equipment back in service after incidents and is always ready to co-pilot an apparatus for any parade. Danny served as Director for many years helping to clean up, sanitize, and maintain the building and grounds. He has a few classes, trainings, and certifications under his belt, such as Scene Support, Radio Operator, CPR, and First Aid. We hold annual business meetings twice a month and Danny practically never misses one unless he's sick or on vacation. Outside of the Fire Department he can be seen anywhere from Crosby's getting a fountain drink, to the Legion for a beer (just kidding) to just visiting local family. Whether towing a cart or going free style, you'll often see the current Wheel Horse, John Deere, or whatever mower cruising down the sidewalk or crossing the street heading to the next stop on his tour. For a special talent aligned with memory, any time you need a local business or persons phone number just ask Danny. There's a pretty good chance he knows it. At least more of a chance than anyone else we know. Danny has been the brightest light in our department for the past 15 years. He always shows us what a good heart is and how kindness and respect can provide positivity to the personality of our Department as a whole. We hope he's around for many more years to come so that bright light in our membership can stay lit for as long as possible!

Stay tuned for our next volunteer feature...

Yesterday at 09:19 (9:19 a.m.), we were dispatched to our first fire for mutual aid to Richburg in the town of Wirt. Our Chief-50 responded and arrived first on scene due to proximity and reported a fully involved single story structure. Bolivar 1 and 7 responded with limited crews due to the time of day on a weekday along with 1st Asst. Chief-501. Allentown 7 and Richburg 7 arrived first providing initial attack, with Allentown 1's and Bolivar 1's crews providing scene upport. Mutual aid from Clarksville and Friendship provided water supply and tanker shuttle along with Bolivar 7. All units were back in service at approximately 13:30 (1:30 p.m.) Thank you to everyone that assisted on scene!

Yesterday at 17:25 (5:25 p.m.) we were dispatched for a full response to a second structure fire in the town of Wirt. Bolivar units 1, 7 & 4 all responded within 8 minutes. Our Chief arrived on scene first, due to proximity, and reported a working structure fire in a 4 bay garage with flames showing out the roof. Bolivar 4 was placed first in due to an unforseen incident with Bolivar 7 in second for water supply while drafting from a pond right on location. B-7 supplied B-4 which provided unitial attack, while also supplying water to Allentown 1 on the back side of the structure. Many crews from multiple companies worked hard on extinguishing the fire and setting up water supply operations while some also contended with another small fire incident inside the villlage of Richburg. Good job by all. Thank you to Allentown, Portville, Friendship, Clarksville, Westons Mills, Wellsville, Shinglehouse, and any other mutual aid companies and personnel that assisted on scene. All Bolivar units were back in service at approximately 23:45 (11:45 p.m.)

We said our final goodbye to Bolivar 8. She was sold and picked up today to go to her new home in Alabama. Good luck with her, she was and still is a good rig! 🫡
