Community Outreach Ministries

Began in 2009 as the Bolivar Area Ministerial Alliance (BAMA), COM has worked for years at helping people here in Polk County, MO. We changed our name to Community Outreach Ministries (COM) in 2014. COM operates the food pantry for Polk County, offers personalized, transformative case management through our Pathways program, runs Project Thrive (an employment access and workforce development progr

am), and operates the Compassion Thrift store. Since our beginning, we have also offered space to our local Salvation Army service extension unit for providing for emergency financial needs. This captures of philosophy of ministry, which is to not only provide safety net programs (like food and emergency financial assistance) that keep people from falling further into poverty and desperation, but to also work with individuals and families to empower them to overcome the barriers and cycles of poverty. Most importantly, we believe that poverty can only truly be addressed by forming collaborative relationships and community with those experiencing needs and leveraging their gifts, talents, and resources as part of the solution.
