Last week, Central Polk County Firefighters participated in an MRI safety review and building walkthrough at the Mercy Bolivar Clinic.

Ongoing training helps our members understand the unique hazards and safety considerations involved in incidents near MRI equipment. The walkthrough also allowed us to become familiar with the facility’s layout and improve our emergency preplanning.
We additionally conducted ladder-positioning training to evaluate setbacks and reach for various areas of the building’s roof.

Thank you to Mercy Clinic for hosting the MRI safety review and allowing us to conduct this important preplanning. We also appreciate the Bolivar City Fire crew for joining us.

You've heard of trial by fire, but have you heard of training by fire?

Our Bolivar City Fire crews and our fellow area Polk County fire departments are joining together for live fire training this week, weather permitting.

Don't be alarmed if you see multiple fire crews working hard at Fire Station No. 1 on South Springfield Avenue this week, especially on Monday, Oct. 12.

Please stay clear of this area as we practice our skills and prepare to help you in your time of need.

This afternoon we along with several of our Mutual Aid Partners were dispatch to a structure fire on O Highway in Cliquot. And while we are sorry we inconveniencing some people by making them turn around because we had apparatus completely blocking the road. I would like to remind everybody about the residents who lost everything they owned in this house fire. And even though it took you a few more moments to drive around to get home you made it to your home and get to enjoy it tonight. The victims of this fire don't get that option. Please keep your neighbors in your thoughts in there time of loss.

Today crews from several departments from the area attended a handling propane emergencies class. Class was provided by funds from SEMA (Missouri State Emergency Management Agency), MERC and instructed by L.E.T.S. Kraig Bone.

Today marks 25 years since we endured this tragedy. This brought a lot of change to not only the fire service, but emergency services in general. It changed the way we look at major crowed events, it changed the way we travel. For a time it brought back patriotism and volunteerism in our country.

We would love to see the patriotism and volunteerism return to our nation. Without the tragedy that happened to cause it. The days following without never forget. We can show that we never forgot by coming back together as a nation and helping one another.

As of Friday September 4th the entire County of Polk is under a burn ban. A resolution was passed by the Polk County Commission to enact the burn ban for the County. We encourage everybody to avoid activities that can cause accidental fires. Some of the bigger fires our county has undergone has been during these times of drought. In the summer of 2012 we had a large fire in the Wishart area and simultaneously a large fire north of Bolivar off of 410 East of D highway. More recently we had a large fire in the Carlin prairie area that endangered several of the houses in subdivisions out there. We also had a large fire just south of the fairgrounds that was caused by normal farming activity. I bring all of these fires up because they were not intentionally set but were caused by either carelessly sitting trash piles or operating equipment.

This weekend has been a very busy weekend for the district.
2 breathing problems calls
1 Hemorrhage or laceration call
2 Transportation incidents
4 building fires
1 natural cover fire
And a couple of these calls happened concurrent with one another. We are very proud of our responders that took time out to cover each and every one of these calls. We would also like to thank our community for their continued support in the mission of the fire department to protect all of you.
We are extremely fortunate to have aid partners that we help any return they help us.
