You're invited to a community open house on Monday, Sept. 21 to celebrate the Bookmobile's first six months on the road!

During the open house, you can walk through the Bookmobile, get or renew your library card, browse and check out items, place items on hold from other branches to be picked up at a future Bookmobile stop, return library items, and more.

We ask that you continue to and follow our recommended irrigation schedule. Following this schedule will help to even out peak demands and keep water pressures higher during daylight hours, improve storage for firefighting capability, reduce water loss due to evaporation, and reduce irrigation system adjustments if/when mandatory water conservation measures are required in the future.

📢Community Health Notice

The NC Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed that several baby goats from Farm Adventures mobile petting zoo (Iredell County) tested positive for rabies.

Some of the goats were present at events and facilities across North Carolina between July 28 and August 27, 2026, including locations in Hickory, Lexington, Mocksville, Durham, Statesville, Charlotte, and Boone.

⁉️ What should you do?

If you or your child had direct contact with one of the baby goats:
There is no need to panic, but it is important to report the exposure so health officials can determine whether any follow-up is needed.

Please contact Brunswick County Health and Human Services Communicable Disease Nurse at 910-253-2250 to report the exposure and discuss further details.

Please share this information with friends, family, and anyone who may have attended one of these events.

Thank you to everyone who attended the groundbreaking ceremony for ’s new Health and Human Services (HHS) / Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Building! 👏

The ceremony commemorated the start of construction for the new four-story, 140,000 square foot building at the Government Center in Bolivia. Once complete, the building will upgrade and house multiple county services provided by county departments including Health Services, Social Services, Environmental Health, Public Housing, Emergency Management, and Veterans Services.

Stay tuned for updates from Brunswick County Government and Edifice Construction as we move forward with this exciting project!

Due to encouraging trends in drought conditions, water usage, and system demands, Brunswick County has moved from a Stage 3 Water Shortage Warning to a Stage 2 Mandatory Water Conservation Alert. As of August 13, 2026, Brunswick County has seen some improvement in drought conditions and is now classified as an Extreme Drought (D3) county according to the most recent update from the North Carolina Drought Management Advisory Council (NCMDAC). Extreme Drought (D3) is the second highest tier on the U.S. Drought Monitor scale.

Brunswick County is monitoring several factors to determine when changes to the current water restriction stage might be applied. These factors include the overall daily water usage, weather forecasts, rainfall amounts, drought conditions, and the future drought designation from the U.S. Drought Monitor.

Customers are encouraged to consider weather forecasts that project potential rainfall and check the weather conditions on or around their designated irrigation days to avoid overwatering lawns. Remember—one inch of water per week in the summer will keep most types of grass healthy.
