📢 Harper Library in Southport Closes Early Friday, June 19: https://ow.ly/kLyL50ZeIIi

Due to a power outage affecting the Southport area, the Harper Library at 109 W. Moore St. in Southport is closing early to the public for the remainder of Friday, June 19.

Harper Library plans to open as usual on Saturday, June 20 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Brunswick County will share any changes to the branch’s operations should they become necessary.

All other Brunswick County Library branch locations will continue to operate on normal schedules Friday.

📢 N.C. 211 Construction Requires Temporary Closures in Brunswick County: https://ow.ly/X9Tw50ZerSM

The North Carolina Department of Transportation will close two entrances from N.C. 211 (Southport Supply Road) to the 211 Midway Commons Shopping Center starting June 22.

The Lowes Food Boulevard entrance and the adjacent Lowes Food gas station entrance from N.C. 211 will close to prepare for an upcoming traffic shift. The entrances will reopen once the traffic shift is in place in mid-July.

Drivers will need to use the entrances on N.C. 906 (Midway Road) to access the shopping center. Motorists should slow down and use caution when traveling near the area.

June is National Month! Take time this week to include your pets in your emergency plans: Ready.gov/pets 🐾✅

When building your pet preparedness kit, make sure these items are packed and stored in an easily accessible place:

– Food and water (3-day supply), along with bowls
– ID tags, collar, leash, harness, and pet carrier/crate
– Recent photo of your pet and one of you with your pet
– Vaccination and medical records, plus medications
– Pet first aid supplies: bandages, gloves, tweezers, antibiotic ointment, etc.
– Contact list for pet-friendly hotels, veterinarians, and out-of-town caregivers
– Sanitation bags and familiar toys to comfort your pet

It's the second week of 's June 2026 Week-by-Week Countdown. Take time this week to build or restock your emergency supply kit. 👜✅

A basic emergency supply kit could include items such as water and food (at least a 3-day supply), medicine, a battery-powered or hand crank radio, a flashlight, a first aid kit, extra batteries, a whistle, moist towelettes, garbage bags, a manual can opener, copies of personal and pet IDs, updated local maps, cash, and a cell phone with chargers and a backup battery.

Reminder: Burn Ban in Effect for Unincorporated Areas 🚫🔥

All burning within 100 feet of any structure is banned within the unincorporated areas of Brunswick County. An unincorporated area is an area not within a city or town’s limits. If you are located in a city or town, contact your local municipal officials related to the burn ban.

Parts of Brunswick County are currently experiencing either Extreme Drought or Severe Drought conditions. Current and future weather forecast models indicate conditions that are not favorable to open burning. The burn ban does not apply to any open burning permits issued by the North Carolina Forest Service.

All open burning of natural vegetation outside 100 feet of an occupied dwelling requires a permit from the North Carolina Forest Service. In addition, the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality may require additional permits for certain types and locations of burning.

The burn ban will remain in place until conditions improve. Brunswick County will send out a notice when it is lifted and/or to communicate any necessary safety updates related to the burn ban.
