Outstanding teamwork and another successful deployment by our K9 Unit!

On June 6, 2026, Deputy Michael Camastro and K9 Ronin assisted the Shallotte Police Department in locating a suspect who fled on foot following an assault investigation. Using a scent article collected at the scene, K9 Ronin quickly acquired the suspect's odor and tracked through wooded terrain, across a roadway, and along multiple paths before locating the suspect hiding face down near a street corner.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident by Shallotte Police Department personnel.

Great work by Deputy Camastro and K9 Ronin, whose dedication, training, and persistence continue to make a difference in keeping our communities safe. We also appreciate our partnership with the Shallotte Police Department and thank them for their assistance during this incident.

🐾 Excellent trail, Ronin!

Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office K9 Team Locates Assault Suspect! On 6/6/26 Dep. Michael Camastro and K9 Ronin responded to assist Shallotte Police Dept. in locating a suspect who had fled on foot after an assault report. Dep. Camastro collected a scent article at the scene and deployed K9 Ronin from the place where the subject was last observed. Ronin immediately acquired the odor and began trailing away from the residence. The BCSO K9 Team trailed across a roadway into a wooded area to an intersection and continued back to the wooded area. K9 Ronin reached a fork in the path and displayed a noticeable change in behavior. Ronin increased his pace and continued down the path deeper into the woods. A short time later K9 Ronin located the suspect lying face down on the ground near a street corner. Sgt. King from Shallotte Police Department, who had accompanied Deputy Camastro during the search as a cover officer, was also present at the location and took the subject into custody without incident.

🏆 Congratulations to Lieutenant Daniel Little! 🏆

The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office is proud to congratulate Lieutenant Daniel Little on being named the 2026 David "Mac" MacAlpine Law Enforcement Liaison of the Year for Region 3 by the North Carolina Governor's Highway Safety Program.

Lieutenant Little was recognized during the 2026 North Carolina Traffic Safety Conference & Expo in Winston-Salem and received the award during a special luncheon on June 3. The award was presented by North Carolina Governor's Highway Safety Program Director Mark Ezzell.

This recognition is especially noteworthy as Lieutenant Little was selected from among all of North Carolina's Law Enforcement Liaisons (LELs), a group consisting of just eleven individuals statewide who work to advance traffic safety initiatives across their respective regions.

The David "Mac" MacAlpine Award is presented in recognition of outstanding contributions to highway safety and leadership in promoting traffic safety programs. Lieutenant Little was honored for his dedication to Region 3, where he has played a key role in organizing regional traffic safety efforts, fostering collaboration among law enforcement agencies, and serving as a liaison between local agencies and the Governor's Highway Safety Program.

Adding to the prestige of the recognition, this award is only presented every two years, with recipients being recognized for their contributions during the preceding award period.

Through his commitment to reducing crashes, combating impaired driving, promoting occupant protection, and strengthening partnerships throughout southeastern North Carolina, Lieutenant Little has made a lasting impact on the safety of our roadways and communities.

Please join us in congratulating Lieutenant Little on this well-deserved honor and thanking him for his continued service to the citizens of Brunswick County and the State of North Carolina.
