A little rain didn’t dampen the spirits of this crew for the June Discovery Series as we hiked to the gazebo at the Schumann Preserve for . Along the way we discussed the Leave No Trace Principles and best hiking practices, while observing local wildlife and leaving the area cleaner than we found it.

The deer are bounding through the woods, the honeybees are buzzing in our observation hive, the frogs are hopping around the pond and our grounds are busy with lots of school children enjoying a program with their classes as they wrap up the school year.

Celebrate National Trails Day with us on Saturday, June 6th with a Discovery Series hike at the Schumann Preserve!

This Intro to Hiking themed hike is perfect for beginners, families, or anyone looking to feel more confident on the trail. We’ll cover basic hiking tips, trail etiquette, what to bring on a hike, Leave No Trace Principles and how to safely and comfortably enjoy the outdoors while exploring the beautiful trails at Schumann Preserve.

Whether you’re new to hiking or just want a fun morning outside, this is a great opportunity to celebrate National Trails Day and connect with nature!

We’re open this Saturday, and our most-loved activity of exploring the pond with nets is available for the day! Come discover the amazing aquatic life hiding beneath the surface! Scoop through the water and see what you can find, from tadpoles, crayfish, and dragonfly nymphs to other tiny creatures that call the pond home.

Pond nets will be available for use Saturday from 8:30am until 3:30pm. The $5 per vehicle Day Use Fee must be paid prior to using nets at the pond. Only nets and observation containers provided by Up Yonda Farm are to be used. No nets or other fishing equipment can be brought for use. All aquatic life must be returned to the pond after observation.

Join us this Saturday, May 16th, for the Discovery Series: Signs of Spring Hike at Godwin Preserve as we explore the fascinating world of vernal pools. These seasonal wetlands are bursting with life and provide important habitat for frogs, salamanders, insects, and more!

Total hike length (out and back) is 1.5 miles. This hike is rated easy/moderate with several steeper sections.

Visit Up Yonda Farm staff this Saturday, May 9th at the Warren County Fish Hatchery's Spring Zing.

Learn how to fish, catch a trout, win prizes and have lunch at the Spring Zing open house/fishing clinic! Tours of the trout-rearing operation at the hatchery will be offered, while there will also be fishing clinics, fly tying demonstrations, stream entomology and more. Fishing gear donated by sponsors will be raffled off.

The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a free hot dog lunch available between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Spring Zing will be held rain or shine. The hatchery is located at 145 Echo Lake Road, Warrensburg, NY

Our honeybees have officially moved into their observation hive, and they’re already hard at work! Our observation hive in the museum provides a safe, up-close look at the fascinating world inside a beehive. You can watch as worker bees build honeycomb, care for their queen, and keep the whole colony thriving.

Next time you visit, be sure to stop by the museum and see the hive in action. You might just develop a whole new appreciation for these incredible insects!

Thank you to Painting with Patrice for guiding painters through creating a bird nest masterpiece yesterday!

Patrice will be returning to Up Yonda Farm on Thursday, July 2nd to guide you through painting the peaceful beauty of a Lake George sunset. Registration will open on June 1st.
