Our Animal Control Officer has received reports of black bears around town, particularly near chicken coops, and asked us to share some helpful information!

Yelling and clapping may not scare bears away. Try banging pots and pans together or using a few short blasts from an air horn. Electric fencing can also help protect chicken coops and beehives.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve appointed three new reserve officers: Jeffery Beckwith, Jonathan Birr, and Colin Bozek!

All three are currently going through field training and getting out into the community. 🚔

Today marks one year since we lost Chief A. Luke Hamburger.

For two decades, Luke proudly served the Town of Bolton. Beginning as a Patrolman in 2005, he worked his way through the ranks of Sergeant and Lieutenant before becoming Chief of Police in 2024.

Luke was a dedicated leader, mentor, colleague, and friend. He was known for his kindness, generosity, humor, and genuine commitment to the Bolton community and the officers he served alongside.

As we look through these photos from his years, we’re reminded of the many moments, memories, and smiles he brought to our department and our town.

One year later, Luke’s absence is still felt, but his impact remains.

We are grateful for his years of service and for the lasting mark he left on Bolton.

Gone far too soon, but never forgotten.

Rest easy, Chief. 💙

🚧 Traffic Alert 🚧

Golden Run Road is closed to through traffic near #94 due to a downed tree and wires in the area. Updates will be provided as they become available.

☎️ As always, if you see a downed wire, do not approach it and call Nashoba Valley Regional Emergency Communications Center to report it!

A windy and wet weekend is ahead for our area, with the potential for strong wind gusts, downed trees and branches, and power outages.

A few reminders as the weather moves in:

🌳 Stay away from downed or damaged trees and branches.
⚡ Never approach a downed power line. Always assume it is live, and keep children and pets away.
🔦 Be prepared for possible power outages—charge your phones and have flashlights available.
🚗 Use extra caution while driving. Wet roads, reduced visibility, and debris can create hazardous conditions.
🏠 Secure outdoor furniture, decorations, and other loose items before the strongest winds arrive.

If you see a downed power line, stay back and call 9-1-1. For other non-emergency police matters, contact NashNashoba Valley Regional Emergency Communications Center978-772-1900.

🐾 We’re excited to announce that the Bolton Police Department has been awarded a grant from Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. to support the Worcester County Comfort Dog Mutual Response Program!

Funded through the Bureau of Justice Assistance COSSUP grant, this initiative helps law enforcement support individuals affected by trauma, mental health crises, and substance use disorders.

The grant funded the retrofitting of our dedicated K9 cruiser and covers important operational expenses, including health insurance, equipment, and event overtime. These resources help ensure K9 Denny’s safety and well-being while supporting local and regional mutual aid deployments.

Yesterday, Officer Casey McCarthy and K9 Denny joined District Attorney Early in Worcester for the official press conference launching this regional initiative.

We’re grateful to DA Early and his team, as well as the Department of Justice, for their continued support of comfort dogs and the important work they do throughout our communities.
