SENIOR HEAT SAFETY ALERT ⚠️
Extreme heat can be especially dangerous for older adults. During this heat advisory, the Council on Aging encourages all seniors and caregivers to take extra precautions to prevent heat-related illness.
☀️ Senior Heat Safety Tips:
• Drink water regularly — even if you do not feel thirsty
• Stay inside air-conditioned buildings whenever possible
• Avoid outdoor activity during the hottest hours of the day
• Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
• Keep blinds or curtains closed to block afternoon heat
• Check medications, as some can increase sensitivity to heat
• Watch for signs of heat exhaustion: dizziness, confusion, weakness, nausea, or headache
💙 Please remember to check in on elderly neighbors, friends, and loved ones, especially those living alone. A simple phone call or visit could save a life.
If you or someone you know needs assistance staying cool or accessing local resources, please contact the Council on Aging at 978-779-3313 or 978-779-3314.
Together, we can help keep our seniors safe during extreme heat.
