TRAFFIC ADVISORY

The Bonduel Area Fire Department will be conducting annual fire hose testing today, June 8, 2026.

As a result, South 1st Street between West Mill Street and the southernmost driveway of Dollar General will be closed to through traffic from 8:00 a.m. until approximately 4:00 p.m.

Motorists are asked to use alternate routes and avoid the area whenever possible. Local access will be maintained as conditions allow, but temporary delays should be expected.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we complete this important testing to ensure our equipment remains ready to serve the community when needed.

Thank you for your understanding.

As we wrap up our first annual Bonduel Area Fire Department Night Golf Outing, there is one thing we want to say above all else.

Thank you.

What started as an idea became a reality because of the incredible support from our community, sponsors, golfers, volunteers, donors, and everyone who helped make this event possible.

To every team that signed up, every business that sponsored a hole, every person who donated raffle items, every volunteer who gave their time, and every community member who came out to support us, we are truly grateful. The turnout exceeded our expectations and the support shown to our department was humbling.

Events like this are about much more than fundraising. They bring people together, strengthen community relationships, and remind us how fortunate we are to serve an area that continually stands behind its fire department.

The Bonduel Area Fire Department has proudly served this community for 110 years, and seeing the support we received during this event reinforces why we work so hard every day. Your generosity helps support training, equipment, and the continued development of our firefighters, allowing us to better serve the citizens who depend on us.

To everyone who played, sponsored, donated, volunteered, attended, or simply helped spread the word, please know that your support means more than we can adequately express.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping make our first annual Night Golf Outing a tremendous success. We are already looking forward to making next year's event even bigger and better.

Be sure to mark your calendars now. The Second Annual Bonduel Area Fire Department Night Golf Outing is scheduled for May 22, 2027. We cannot wait to see everyone again next year for another great night of fun, fellowship, and support for your fire department.

Thank you for believing in us, supporting us, and standing with us.
We have tagged our sponsors the best we can. If we missed someone that does have a Facebook account please tag them.

This past Saturday, several members of the Bonduel Area Fire Department had the opportunity to attend the RIT Under Live Fire Conditions program presented by Brew City FOOLS at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.

This hands-on training placed firefighters in realistic, high-stress situations focused on rescuing downed firefighters under live fire conditions. Participants worked through firefighter removal techniques, window and ladder rescues, victim packaging, crew coordination, and rapid intervention operations while operating in full PPE and SCBA.

Training like this pushes firefighters outside their comfort zones and reinforces the skills needed when seconds matter most. While we hope to never need these skills on an actual emergency scene, we owe it to each other to be prepared if that day ever comes.

The Bonduel Area Fire Department remains committed to providing our members with opportunities to train beyond the minimum standards. The more we train, the more capable we become, and the better service we can provide to our firefighters and the community we serve.

A huge thank you to Brew City FOOLS and NWTC for providing an outstanding training experience. Every member returned with valuable knowledge, practical skills, and a greater appreciation for the importance of firefighter survival and rapid intervention.

Below are some pictures of the morning breakout sessions prior to live fire conditions.

While all golf team spots have been filled, everyone is welcome to come out and support the department. Join us for dinner, raffles, bucket raffles, and a great evening with friends, family, and community members.

The Bonduel Area Fire Department is a paid-on-call fire department, not a volunteer fire department.

There is a common misconception that departments like ours are simply “volunteer.” The reality is that our firefighters are compensated for the time, training, and response commitment required to protect this community.

Because our firefighters are paid-on-call, there is an expectation of professionalism, extensive training, accountability, and a commitment to serve the community at a high level. Our members respond at all hours of the day and night while balancing full-time careers, families, and personal responsibilities.

Every firefighter that joins this department swears an oath to serve and protect the community. That oath carries responsibility. It means committing to training, maintaining certifications, responding when called, and continuing to improve for the people that depend on us.

A combination of tax dollars and community fundraising helps fund department payroll, equipment, apparatus, training, and operational costs. Community support plays a major role in helping ensure our firefighters have the tools and training needed to provide professional emergency services.

As a department, we are always working to learn new skills and expand our capabilities to better serve the community. The fire service continues to evolve, and we believe training should evolve with it. We are currently working toward multiple aspects of technical rescue training as another tool in the box for our department.

We also have firefighters that regularly attend outside training to continue building their skills and bring that knowledge back to the department. Most recently, members attended heavy equipment extrication training, and this coming weekend firefighters will be attending Advanced Rapid Intervention training. Continuing education and outside instruction help strengthen our department and improve the service we provide to the community.

One of the biggest changes within our department has been the major increase in training. We now conduct in-house training 3 to 4 times per month, which is a significant increase from the past schedule of once per month. That increase in training has helped build stronger skills, better teamwork, improved response capabilities, and a culture focused on continued growth and professionalism.

Our new recruits are expected to meet professional standards from the beginning of their probationary period. Recruits must complete department orientation requirements, assigned probationary training, and online coursework through the BAFD-Training.org portal. They are also required to maintain regular attendance at trainings, meetings, and emergency responses while learning department equipment, apparatus, policies, and operational expectations.

Recruits are expected to obtain Firefighter I and Hazardous Materials Operations certification within their first year, complete annual continuing education requirements, maintain SCBA qualifications including fit testing requirements, and operate within department safety standards and the Incident Command System. Additional outside training through technical colleges, conferences, and specialized fire service programs is highly encouraged because continuous learning is a major part of our department culture.

Those expectations do not stop after probation. Full firefighters within the department are also expected to maintain the same high standards of professionalism, training, accountability, attendance, safety, and continued education throughout their careers. Becoming a firefighter is not the end of training. It is the beginning of a continued commitment to learning and serving at a high level.

We are also always looking for new firefighters who are willing to serve this community to the highest level. This job takes commitment, dedication, professionalism, and a willingness to continually learn and improve. The community deserves firefighters who take the responsibility seriously, and we are proud of the members who continue putting in the work every single day.

Over the last several years, our department has continued raising the standard through increased training, stronger response participation, and a culture focused on professionalism and pride in the job.

Paid-on-call is simply the staffing model. The expectation to perform professionally and serve this community with competence and dedication remains the same.

The Bonduel Area Fire Department would like to give a huge thank you to Walmart Supercenter in Shawano for their generous donation of cases of water to our department.

Donations like this directly support our firefighters during training, emergency responses, community events, and long incidents throughout the year. Support from local businesses helps keep our members ready to serve when the community needs us most.

We truly appreciate Walmart-Shawano and their continued support of local emergency services.

Successful completion of the probationary period does not end training expectations. Continuous training, accountability, and professional development are expected throughout a member’s time with the department.

The Bonduel Area Fire Department is looking for people who live in the Village of Bonduel or Town of Hartland and want to serve their community in a meaningful way.

We are a paid-on-call department. You live your normal day to day life, and when a call comes in, you respond. You could be at home, at work, or with your family, and in a moment, you are helping someone who needs it.

This role carries real responsibility. You are responding to fires, crashes, and medical emergencies. You are there when people are having one of the worst days of their lives.

We take that seriously.

This is also a commitment. You are expected to make time for it. Regular attendance at meetings, training, and incident responses is required. The department depends on people who show up and stay consistent.

You will be trained to handle these situations with confidence and professionalism. Training follows Wisconsin SPS 330 standards, along with all required health and safety guidelines. That includes compliance with PPE requirements and facial hair policies to ensure proper respirator seal and firefighter safety.

This is a great opportunity for someone who: • Wants to give back to the community
• Is willing to commit time for training and response
• Can stay calm and focused under pressure
• Works well as part of a team

What we offer: • Paid-on-call compensation
• Hands-on training and certifications
• A strong team environment
• The chance to make a real impact locally

No prior experience is required. We will provide the training you need.

If you are ready to make the commitment and be part of something that truly matters, consider joining the Bonduel Area Fire Department.

Reach out to learn more about how to get started. You can pick up an application at Bonduel Village Hall or visit BONDUELAREAFIRE.ORG
