In rural areas like Boundary County, calling 911 during a life-threatening emergency and having to wait for an ambulance can really put the phrase “every minute counts” to a test!

Factors like distance, weather, terrain, patient condition, or lack of phone service may sometimes require meeting an ambulance en route or transporting someone to the hospital yourself. That’s why calling 911 as early as possible is critical — it allows dispatch to alert local emergency services and coordinate the safest, most effective response for your specific situation.

While it may seem quicker to drive straight to the ER, doing so can actually delay care, as well as needlessly place yourself and others on the road in harm’s way.

EMS can begin life-saving treatment as soon as they reach you, and continue that care all the way to the hospital. Skipping that step can cost valuable time and critical interventions.

Remember… Every. Minute. Counts. Here’s why:

• EMS can provide immediate advanced care — including CPR, defibrillation, airway support, bleeding control, and emergency medications — before you even reach the hospital.

• EMS can communicate with the ER ahead of time, ensuring the right team and resources are ready when you arrive.

• Attempting to transport someone yourself emergently—without coordination— can be risky. If you’re speeding, passing unsafely, or ignoring traffic signals; it puts everyone at greater risk. Instead, pull over and call 911 for guidance.

Bottom line: Call 911, follow instructions, and only move if dispatch advises it. In an emergency, coordinated care saves lives.

Random Holiday, Random Fact #1
💅National Nail Polish Day - June 1

You know that thing medical professionals stick on your finger when they do a "vitals check?" Its called a Pulse Oximeter. Pulse Oximetry uses light beams to measure the amount of oxygenated hemoglobin in your blood. These measurements provide information about how well oxygen is being delivered to your tissues.

Have you ever wondered if fake nails or nail polish affect these readings? Studies have shown that UNPAINTED acrylic or gel nails don't affect O2 readings, but some darker shades of nail polish can decrease the percentage by 3-5%.

What is Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who died while serving their country.

“The land of the free, home of the brave.”

Congratulations to our very own Ema Frederico!

Ema started with Boundary Ambulance as an EMT Basic in 2022, and we knew right away this hardworking and dedicated woman was made for EMS.

In March of 2025 she graduated her Paramedic Program and accepted a full-time position with us as the new Green Shift Paramedic!

We are extremely proud of Paramedic Frederico, and ask you to join us in congratulating her on this exciting achievement!

"Get the RIGHT PATIENT, to the RIGHT PLACE, at the RIGHT TIME."

This is the motto of the Idaho Time Sensitive Emergency (TSE) System. Boundary Ambulance is dedicated to providing excellent care to our community and is proud to inform Boundary County that we have received our Advanced Life Support Time Sensitive Emergency EMS Designation!

Idaho TSE is a statewide system establishing standards and integrating protocols between different healthcare facilities, for the purpose of timely identification, transfer and treatment of the 3 most common PREVENTABLE deaths...

Trauma, STEMI (heart attack), and Stroke (brain attack).

This achievement was spear-headed by Lieutenant Paramedic Michaela Burt, and we ask you to join us in thanking her! LT Burt's steadfast commitment to this community is shown every day through her work here at Boundary Ambulance, and we are grateful to employ such dedicated professionals.
