East Pierce Fire & Rescue

East Pierce Fire & Rescue Proudly serving Bonney Lake, Edgewood, Milton, Lake Tapps, Sumner, Tehaleh, and Ridge Communities.

EAST PIERCE FIRE AND RESCUE was created when the City of Bonney Lake Fire Department, Lake Tapps Fire and Pierce County Fire District 24 merged in 2000 with the goal of providing a seamless response to emergency situations. In 2006, voters in Pierce County Fire District 12 and South Prairie Fire District 20 overwhelmingly passed a special election to merge the two districts with East Pierce. In 20

08, the citizens of the City of Sumner and Pierce County Fire District 1 also voted to join the East Pierce family. In 2010, Edgewood residents voted in favor of merging with East Pierce. In April 2011, the Milton City Council voted to join East Pierce, bringing expanded fire, rescue and emergency medical services to their city. Today, East Pierce serves a population of more than 96,000 living in and around Bonney Lake, Sumner, Lake Tapps, the Ridge Communities, South Prairie, Edgewood and Milton. The district covers approximately 151 square miles and protects residents from twelve stations – six staffed and four volunteer, one logistics station, and one facility on Lake Tapps for the marine rescue unit. All full-time firefighters are cross-trained as either emergency medical technicians (EMTs) or paramedics and are able to respond to both medical emergencies and fires. An independently elected board of citizens, called Fire Commissioners, governs the agency.

🔥 Residential Fire – Lake Tapps 🔥

Crews were dispatched around 2:15 a.m. this morning to a reported residential fire in the Lake Tapps area. Firefighters arrived to find light smoke coming from a single-story home. Crews quickly located and extinguished the fire, preventing further spread.

No injuries were reported. The Pierce County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause. Central Pierce Fire & Rescue provided mutual aid support, and Puget Sound Energy assisted on scene.

🕓 Tonight we “fall back” an hour, and it’s the perfect time to make sure that your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working.

- Test each alarm. Press the test button and listen for the beep.
- If your alarm uses regular batteries, replace them once a year.
- Many newer alarms have long-life batteries sealed inside that last about 10 years. All smoke alarms, no matter the type, should be replaced every 10 years.

🚨 Remember: Test your alarms once a month to confirm they’re functioning properly and can alert you in an emergency.

Need help? East Pierce Fire & Rescue offers free smoke alarms and installation for EPFR residents, thanks to our partnership with the American Red Cross.

🎃 The Witches of East Pierce (our admin team) brewed up some Halloween spirit at HQ today!

As families head out for trick-or-treating tonight, take a few extra moments to help keep everyone’s night safe and fun. 👇

🚗 Drive Safe
- Take it slow and stay alert in neighborhoods, little ghosts and goblins may be extra excited tonight.
- Watch carefully for trick-or-treaters near intersections, medians, and curbs, and pull in or out of driveways with care.
- Keep your focus on the road and save distractions (like your phone) for later.
- Turn headlights on early to spot children and families from a greater distance.
- Popular trick-or-treating hours are 5:30–9:30 p.m. — expect extra foot traffic and plenty of glowing costumes.

🚶‍♀️ Walk Safe
- Cross streets at corners or marked crosswalks, and take your time looking both ways.
- Keep heads up and devices down to stay aware of your surroundings.
- Make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
- Use sidewalks where you can, or walk facing traffic if there aren’t any.
- Watch for cars that are turning or backing up.
- Join kids under 12 for trick-or-treating fun, and for older ones heading out on their own, encourage them to stay with friends and choose familiar, well-lit routes.

🌧️ A quick weather note:
The National Weather Service reports wet and breezy conditions moving in tonight and continuing into Saturday. If you’re out for Halloween festivities or heading home later in the evening, be mindful of slick roads, watch for reduced visibility in the rain, and secure outdoor decorations before the wind picks up.

Wishing everyone a safe and spook-tacular Halloween from all of us at East Pierce Fire & Rescue! 🕸️
