The convenience of battery-powered everything these days is understandably helpful to individuals, businesses and institutions.

But fires caused by sending rechargeable batteries from all type devices to the landfill with regular garbage is not only dangerous to the health of people, but the spontaneous fires they are causing in our landfill and garbage collection vehicles are incredibly expensive hazards.

These very bad outcomes can easily be avoided if we all learn to simply recycle batteries at NO COST by taking them to the Boone County Landfill scale house. Please do your part to protect property and our people. Thank you.

Each November the entire Secondary Roads Dept. comes together as a team from across Boone County at their annual Winter Meeting.

In addition to catching up with each other, having a meal together and learning about important new topics, they take time to focus on new snow and ice management skills, and brushing the dust off those skills they've already mastered. They focus on this serious work now to ensure the public's safe travel during and after snowfalls and icy conditions we all know are coming.

These are the heroes that will get up early and stay out late working to make sure your Boone County roads are accessible when you, your family and emergency services need to arrive safely.

Please, if you're lucky enough to know one of these professionals, take a moment to shake their hand and thank them for all they do.

At Boone County we couldn't be more proud of our year-round road warriors. With our thanks to each and all!
