A new Civil War Trails historical marker commemorating Stoneman's Raid is now installed in front of the Historic Downtown Boone Post Office, adding another chapter to Watauga County's rich history and connecting our community to the broader Civil War Trails program across the region.
Stoneman's Raid (1865) is a fascinating piece of local history, and this marker gives both residents and visitors a chance to learn more about the events that shaped Boone and the surrounding mountains. Stop by, read the marker, and take a moment to explore everything Downtown Boone has to offer while you're here.
A huge thank you to the Historic Preservation Commission, the Watauga County Historical Society, the Downtown Boone Development Association Board, and Town staff for crafting the language, coordinating the project, and covering the installation costs.
Next time you're downtown, swing by the Historic Post Office and check it out! Learn more about the Civil War Trails marker program at the link in bio.
