🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨

The Boone County Sheriff's Office has recently received several reports of a phone scam involving individuals claiming to be deputies.

In these calls, the scammer tells the victim that they missed jury duty and that a warrant has been issued for their arrest. The caller then attempts to pressure the victim into making an immediate payment to avoid being arrested.

This is a scam.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office will never call you and demand payment over the phone to resolve a warrant, missed jury duty, or any other legal matter requiring payment. Scammers often use fear and urgency to convince people to send money through gift cards, prepaid debit cards, cryptocurrency, or electronic payment apps.

If you receive one of these calls:
• Hang up immediately.
• Do not provide any personal or financial information.
• Do not send money.
• If you are concerned about the legitimacy of the call, contact the Boone County Sheriff's Office directly using a known phone number.

Please share this information with family, friends, and neighbors, especially elderly residents who are often targeted by these scams.

Stay vigilant and help us spread the word.
