So incredibly proud of the Junior team on Saturday! They took 2nd place at the 4-H shotgun team tournament at Hidden Brook! ๐Ÿฅˆ๐ŸŽฏ

Special shoutout to Jonah (not pictured because he had to head to football practice), who came in 3rd place overall for the juniors! ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ™Œ

This was a brand-new experience for the juniorsโ€”they had never shot trap or a course before, but they stayed with it, learned a ton, and had a blast.

We also want to give a huge thank you to Nelson from Yadkin for securing the grant to put this statewide 4-H shotgun league together, and a big thanks to our own Stacey Manno for writing a grant to cover the ammo for this event. Because of them, the kids got to shoot completely for free today!

Can't wait for the next shoots in the central and western parts of the state later this year! ๐ŸŒฒ Let's go, team!

ROOTED IN LEARNING! ๐Ÿ

๐Ÿฅฐ Our Wilkesboro Elementary students had a blast exploring the amazing world of sweet potatoes on 5/22/26, marking the grand finale of our Locally Delicious series! We are so incredibly grateful to The Health Foundation for generously supporting this program all season long.

๐Ÿ˜€ To wrap up our last session, our fantastic 4-H Agent, Stacey Manno, taught students how these nutritious roots grow and why they are such an important crop right here in North Carolina. The highlight of the day was definitely the foodโ€”Ms. Stacey whipped up a delicious surprise snack: chocolate brownies with a secret sweet potato base! The kids absolutely loved tasting how naturally sweet and fudgy a healthy veggie-based treat can be.๐Ÿ

The fun continued with a hands-on craft session where the kids designed their very own sweet potato pie masks! Be sure to scroll through the photos to check out their awesome creations in our final group shot. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพ

โœ๏ธWhat a perfect way to conclude our Locally Delicious journey. We have absolutely loved seeing these students connect with local agriculture, healthy habits, and hands-on fun over the course of this series!โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ… LOCAL FOOD, BIG LEARNING! ๐Ÿ…

Today, our Wilkesboro Elementary students dug into the wonderful world of tomatoes through our Locally Delicious program, generously supported by The Health Foundation!

Led by our amazing 4-H Agent, Stacey Manno, students learned all about tomatoes. But we didn't just talk about themโ€”we tasted the fruits of our knowledge! Students participated in a fun culinary fresh, nutrient-dense tomato snack.

To wrap up the day, the kids jumped into an interactive literacy activity and a creative craft session where they made their very own tomato masks! Scroll through the photos to see them showing off their sweet creations for our group picture! ๐Ÿ“ธโœจ

Students also took home a tomato growing kit to grow their very own tomatoes for the tomato season!

We love seeing the students connect with local agriculture, healthy eating, and hands-on creativity in such a fun, memorable way. ๐ŸŽ’๐ŸŒฑ

๐Ÿซ Local Education in Action!

On May 7, the Locally Delicious program at Wilkesboro Elementary, supported by The Health Foundation, successfully integrated agricultural education with nutritional literacy through a hands-on, multimodal learning experience!

Led by 4-H Agent Stacey Manno, students explored the regional significance of blueberries before participating in a fun culinary demonstration to prepare a nutrient-dense snack of fresh blueberries, honey and yogurt.

The session concluded with an interactive literacy activity and a creative craft, effectively reinforcing the connection between local food systems, healthy dietary choices, and kinesthetic development. ๐ŸŒŸ

Way to go, students!
