We always need volunteers! If you are passionate about leading and teaching the youth of Wilkes signup!

North Carolina has been selected to host a National Level 2 Volunteer Training at the Eastern 4-H Center November 2-5. As host state we get a limited number of spaces for our volunteers to take the training. Volunteers must be 21 years of age or older.

Check in for the training is on Monday, November 2 between 2 and 5 pm. Training concludes Thursday, November 5th by 1:00pm. Participants must be present for the entire time and agree to be a level 2 volunteer instructor for North Carolina.

Participants must be a level 1 certified volunteer in the discipline they select.

We have a few more spots to fill so if you are interested, please email [email protected] as soon as possible with your first two discipline choices. Participants will be selected by need in the discipline, region you are from, and how long you have been involved in NC Shooting Sports.

Disciplines offered include Archery, Muzzleloading, Pistol, Shotgun, Hunting Skills and Rifle.

🌟 4-H Shooting Sports: Sharing the 4-H Story!

Tonight, members of the Wilkes County 4-H Shooting Sports Club had the wonderful opportunity to meet with the Brushy Mountain Ruritan Club and share their experience at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Competition in Nebraska! 🇺🇸🎯

The evening started with a wonderful home-cooked meal prepared by the Brushy Mountain Ruritan Club. We are so grateful for their warm hospitality and for making us feel right at home!

After dinner, Austin, Trevor, and Wesley shared what it was like to compete at the national level. They talked about the many different categories available to 4-H youth, how the competition was organized, and some of the special friendships they made along the way. One of the most meaningful parts of the experience was seeing firsthand that 4-H truly is a national family—young people from across the country coming together through shared interests, teamwork, and leadership. 💚

The Brushy Mountain Ruritan Club generously made a donation to help support our youth attending the national competition, and we are incredibly grateful for their investment in our 4-H members and their opportunities. Your support helps make experiences like this possible!

Paula Eller, Lead Coach/Leader, gave a brief history of how the Wilkes County 4-H Shooting Sports Club has grown and progressed over the years.

Samantha Lusk shared information about NC Cooperative Extension, Wilkes County Center, and how our local 4-H program operates. Like so many of our 4-H opportunities, our program relies heavily on the generosity and support of our community through donations.

🚨 WE NEED YOUR HELP, WILKES COUNTY! 🚨Our exhibit hall is looking a little too quiet… We currently only have 2 entries submitted for the 2026 Wilkes Agricultural Fair!

We know our community is packed with incredible talent—so where are all the bakers, crafters, gardeners, and young artists at? 🧑‍🌾🥧🎨 Winning a ribbon and cash prizes is easier than you think, and entering is FREE!

Whether you bake a mean batch of brownies, have fresh tomatoes in your garden, or your kids love Lego creations, there is a category for EVERYONE (adults & youth)!

🗓️ DEADLINE: Forms must be submitted by September 11 at 5:00 PM. (No walk-in entries allowed on drop-off day this year!)

👉 How to enter: Pick up an entry form at the Extension Office or contact Sam Lusk at 336-651-7335 (or email [email protected]). Fill it out and submit it before Sept. 11.

Bring your items on Drop-Off Day (Oct. 5). Don't let our exhibit hall go empty this year!

🎯 Congratulations to Austin and Trevor Johnson on an outstanding showing at YHEC Nationals! They represented our shooting sports program with pride and their team had a great competition. We are so proud of their hard work, dedication, teamwork, and commitment to safe and responsible outdoor skills. Great job, guys! 👏
