It is with deep sadness that the Boonton Fire Department announces the passing of Cy Wikelsky.

Cy was a former Fire Commissioner, Councilman, and, above all, one of Boonton’s greatest champions. His love for this town was evident in everything he did.

Although he was never a firefighter, Cy became one of the first non-members of the Boonton Fire Department to carry a fire pager. When the tones dropped, he responded—not because he had to, but because he wanted to stand beside those who served his community. He wore his Boonton Fire Department jacket with immense pride, and his unwavering support of our members never went unnoticed.

Few people have given so much of themselves to the Town of Boonton. Cy believed in this community, believed in its firefighters, and made sure we always knew he was in our corner.

On behalf of the officers and members of the Boonton Fire Department, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Cy’s family and friends.

Rest easy, Cy. Thank you for your friendship, your dedication, and your unwavering support. Your name will continue to echo through the halls of our firehouse for generations to come.

The Boonton Fire Department had no greater friend than you.

🚓🚒 A Step Forward for Public Safety

Kudos to the Town of Boonton for implementing technology that helps make our community safer.

The new SafetyStick devices are more than parking management tools. By helping keep intersections, fire lanes, and key access points clear, they support faster response times for police, fire, and EMS when seconds matter most.

For the Boonton Fire Department, clear streets mean better access for fire apparatus and emergency vehicles responding to those in need.

We appreciate the Town’s continued commitment to the safety of our residents, visitors, and first responders.

Beginning in July 2026, the Town of Boonton will launch a pilot program on Main Street utilizing SafetySticks to enhance pedestrian safety and improve compliance with parking regulations in designated no-parking areas. 🚨 Drill Night at the Boonton Fire Department 🚨

Tonight’s topic: Fire Alarms & Sprinkler Systems.

Some people think alarm calls are “routine.” Reality says otherwise.

Roughly 44% of our calls are Fire/CO alarm related. That means we don’t get the luxury of treating them casually. We train on them constantly because the one time an alarm is real, seconds matter.

Understanding panels.
Tracing zones.
Locating activation points.
Checking sprinkler systems.
Finding hidden hazards.
Making fast decisions under pressure.

That’s why drill nights matter.

The public sees the trucks roll out. What they don’t always see are the hours spent training so there are no surprises, ever. 🔥🚒

Last night was a long one for your Boonton Fire Department.

Six incidents scattered throughout the evening.
We were fully staffed in the firehouse and ready.

What makes nights like that easier isn’t just training or preparation… it’s community.

The helping hands. The encouragement. The small gestures that mean a lot at 2am.

Mayor Jim Lynch stopped by with breakfast.
Councilman Benjamin Weisman delivered pizzas to keep the crews fueled.

That’s Boonton.

When the bell rings, we show up for you.
And on the long nights, you show up for us.
