As the summer season approaches, BTPD remains committed to ensuring bicycle and pedestrian safety on our roadways.

We would like to thank Boonton Township Cub Scout Pack #69 for welcoming our Bicycle Patrol Unit at last night’s meeting, where officers discussed and demonstrated proper bicycle safety techniques.

April Is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Distracted driving has become a deadly epidemic on our roads. Cell phone use, specifically, texting, talking, and social media use has become the most common distraction. By driving distracted, you’re robbing yourself of seconds that you may need to avoid a close call or deadly crash. In 2024, distracted driving injured 315,167 people and killed 3,208 people. Follow these safety tips for a safer ride:

📱Need to send a text? Pull over and park your car in a safe location.
🙋🏼Designate your passenger as your “designated texter” to respond to calls or messages.
🚗Do not scroll through apps while driving. Only operate functions on your phone via Bluetooth or in car controls.

A cell phone related ticket comes with a mandatory court date, fines and potential suspension of your drivers license.

Recent statistics show that since 2020, cases of nation-wide elder fraud have nearly quadrupled.

Last week, BTPD hosted a fraud awareness seminar lead by Detective Colin Yuill. Special thanks to our friends at Victoria Mews Assisted Living for partnering with us and supporting this very important topic.
