π Happy Pride Month! π
June is a time to celebrate love, dignity, and the incredible diversity that makes our communities stronger. Pride Month honors the courage of LGBTQ+ Americans who have fought for equality and recognizes that every person deserves the freedom to live authentically, love who they love, and be treated with respect.
At a time when families across our state come in many forms, it is disappointing to see Governor Braun choose to designate June as "Nuclear Family Month" in apparent contrast to Pride Month. The term "nuclear family" traditionally refers to a household consisting of two parents and their children. While that family structure is valuable and worthy of celebration, it is far from the only kind of family that exists in Indiana today.
Families are led by single parents, grandparents, adoptive parents, same-sex couples, blended families, foster parents, and countless others who provide love, stability, and support. These families are no less deserving of recognition simply because they do not fit a narrow definition.
Leadership should bring people together, not elevate one family model while implicitly excluding others. In a state as diverse as ours, our leaders should recognize and celebrate all Hoosier families, not create divisions based on outdated ideas about what a family should look like.
This Pride Month, we stand with our LGBTQ+ neighbors, friends, and family members. We celebrate the truth that love is love, that every family deserves respect, and that our differences make us stronger.
Happy Pride Month to all. π³οΈβπβ€οΈ
