An iris native to Indiana? Yep, that's right! 🥳😁
Did you know there are iris species native to the Hoosier state? The species pictured is Southern Blue Flag Iris (Isis virginia) a native wildflower known for its showy blooms and affinity for moist swampy areas. Blue flag iris is ideal for planting on pond sides, drainage areas, or in low-lying damp landscapes. Consider adding Blue Flag Iris to your yard as it is a keystone species and is a host plant for several moth and butterfly species.

You may have an easier time recognizing this tree in the fall when it produces its sweet orange fruit that many humans and wildlife love. However, right now it has these adorable dainty white blooms!😍
This super tree is called the Eastern Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana) and is blooming now across Warrick County! The persimmon has excellent wildlife value, many different species including deer, raccoons, foxes, skunk, and much more rely on this tree for a tasty orange snack! If you appreciate having wildlife around your yard, making persimmon jelly, or baking persimmon deserts, consider adding a couple persimmon trees to your area!
