๐ŸŽ‰MAY REPORT! ๐ŸŽ‰

Month of May definitely kept us busy here at your Warrick County Animal Control! Kitten season is starting to squeeze in loading our shelter up with kittens and momma cats๐Ÿฑ , 24 to be exact at the time of typing this post!๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ Dogs continue to be dumped or left behind leaving us in charge of saving them. ๐Ÿ˜ข and multiple neglects to load our shelter up with not so expected animals. ๐Ÿฆ• this month also brought us a good amount of donations to assist in our growth as a shelter to assist the community!

To start off with our month unfortunately adoptions seem to have plummeted. Unfortunately this month only 2 cats were adopted by the public. ๐Ÿ˜” And 5 dogs have been reclaimed by the owners. ๐Ÿฅฒ We have reached out to our partners all month such as PAAWS No-Kill Animal Rescue and Warrick Humane Society Pike Animal Welfare Shelterto help us relocate 4 dogs and 17 cats, but we need you to help those numbers grow larger so more animals can find their furever homes! ๐Ÿซ‚

This month WCAC took in to help raise ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿผ protect ๐Ÿค• and give a second chance ๐Ÿ™ to 43 cats ๐Ÿˆโ€โฌ› 17 dogs ๐Ÿ• 10 goats ๐Ÿ 1 horse ๐ŸŽ 1 mule ๐Ÿด 1 donkey ๐Ÿซ one cow ๐Ÿ„ and 1 turkey ๐Ÿฆƒ the farm animals have been able to find sanctuaries during the continuing of the neglect case. The organization and people of the public who are helping us keep these animals cared for have asked for very little even with assisting with care such as farriers. If you wish to help with those animals donations can go straight to them at your request. We are refraining from mentioning our partners in this case to provide the safety to them, and the animals they hold! ๐Ÿ’š

With all the moving around we have also been able to assist the public with 11 more Trap Neuter Releases (TNR). ๐Ÿˆ Without this program starting our shelter would be more filled than what it already is on cats and kittens (61 ๐Ÿคฏ ) resulting in more sad endings. We are overly thankful ๐Ÿซ‚ for the support we have received for this program! Some have decided to pay for their own spay and neuters ๐Ÿ’ด while others have decided to donate when they can! ๐Ÿ’ฐ Events have even been put on for this program by the community just this month! ๐ŸŽ‰

This month has been crazy with animals coming in both from walk ins and the officers who respond to any calls that came their way! This month the ACOs were able to complete 41 runs. Some of these runs were multiple day complaints or revisits. They have performed runs resulting in stray pick ups, to mass removals! ๐Ÿฑ ๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿฎ ๐Ÿถ

All these services we provide although ran by the county taxes also is able to be done with those willing to help! ๐Ÿฅฒ this month thanks to events, and just caring people in the public we were able to accumulate $987! This has helped us make all the money we put into our TNR program back, plus more! For this we thank you all and hope to continue and assist the public as needed!

๐ŸŒŸ Reminders of June ๐ŸŒŸ

๐ŸŒž We are getting into the warmer seasons! Please do not leave your pets outside unattended with no shelter or water! It is the law to provide properly and needed provisions if they are left out. If you wouldnโ€™t want to to sit in the sun with no resources to cool down, why should your pets?

๐Ÿš™ Cars can also get you in trouble! In the summer time without running AC a cars cabin temperature will increase 20ยฐ every 10 min. If you need to go shopping and have a pet, leave the car running. If you canโ€™t leave it running leave the pets at home!

Finally, watch out this month for another visit from our dogs and cats at the tractor supply events, and for another post for our upcoming July event! ๐Ÿ˜Š

โ€ผ๏ธ MAX SENTENCE GIVEN: 4 years in prison for Shayna Burko which was the highest penalty possible. (Not including any future sentence for her current revoked Vanderburgh County probation charge.)

We are so relieved for this outcome, that some form of justice has FINALLY been served for the 70+ animals who were neglected and/or starved in her care beginning in 2017-2018. We also, at the same time, hope that Shayna receives the significant mental health care that she needs and that we never have to be dealing with this ever again.

We would like to thank our partners in the community who did incredible work over the last 18 months on this particular case:
โ€ข Judge Granger
โ€ข Michael J.Perry, Warrick County Prosecutor
โ€ข Vanderburgh County Prosecutor's Office (Prosecutor Moers)
โ€ข Warrick Humane Society, whose Executive Director Lindsey Hagedorn spoke on behalf of the animals at the sentencing hearing today
โ€ข Warrick County Deputy Prosecutor Jon Schaefer who also gave fantastic remarks today
โ€ข Warrick County Animal Control-Official
โ€ข Evansville Animal Care & Control (Official)

Along with the many staff, volunteers, donors, and local animal advocates who repeatedly showed up and helped us keep the public pressure on for this case. No matter what some might say -- that public pressure DOES matter.

Kimberly Burkoโ€™s trial (Shayna's mother) is set for July 7th.

THANK YOU, for being a voice for the animals who depend on us all. ๐Ÿพ
