An important mission for the Coast Guard is maintaining the navigation aids for the safe transit of vessels. However sometimes with bad storms they can break free like this one. The crew from U.S. Coast Guard Station Boothbay Harbor found this one drifting and secured it for our buoy tenders to place it back on station.

The crew today took advantage of the weather and conducted Heavy Weather Training. For those who do not know, Heavy Weather is when the wave height is greater than 10’ and winds over 30 knots.

The crew did an amazing job and new members were able to experience what Maine has to offer. Only a few people felt a little sick.

The crew last night responded to a vessel aground with 15 persons on board. With swift action the crew responded and deployed the deployable skiff and safely transferred the crew to the Motor Life Boat and got everyone to safety with no injuries

With summer in full swing and paddle crafts such as kayaking is very popular it’s still very important to keep an close eye on the weather. Luckily these 10 kayakers were prepared with life saving equipment such as a whistle, life jacket and a form of communication when suddenly they were swept in with fog and disoriented. The crew quickly responded and found them in dense fog and brought them to safety
