Take the time to read this, and see how a voice of reason does against the voices of profit and oligarchy. I am not optimistic.

The American pope wants to take artificial intelligence down a notch. Is he challenging the tech companies, or will tech take over the papacy?

Democratic State Convention. Gov. Walz just gave a rousing speech. Favorite quote: “What I want on my gravestone: Trump hated my guts.”

I think we must have gotten under someone’s skin. Notice how we’re getting spammed by right-wing bots and Collins ads. Good job Democrats!

Mary Hanley, our Southport Chair sent this out several days ago. I just got the time to read it this morning, and it stopped me in my tracks.
I wanted to send it out to our wider audience for their encouragement and contemplation.
Thanks, Mary

So I can’t save the world—
can’t save even myself,
can’t wrap my arms around
every frightened child, can’t
foster peace among nations,
can’t bring love to all who
feel unlovable.
So I practice opening my heart
right here in this room and being gentle
with my insufficiency. I practice
walking down the street heart first.
And if it is insufficient to share love,
I will practice loving anyway.
I want to converse about truth,
about trust. I want to invite compassion
into every interaction.
One willing heart can’t stop a war.
One willing heart can’t feed all the hungry.
And sometimes, daunted by a task too big,
I tell myself what’s the use of trying?
But today, the invitation is clear:
to be ridiculously courageous in love.
To open the heart like a lilac in May,
knowing freeze is possible
and opening anyway.
To take love seriously.
To give love wildly.
To race up to the world
as if I were a puppy,
adoring and unjaded,
stumbling on my own exuberance.
To feel the shock of indifference,
of anger, of cruelty, of fear,
and stay open. To love as if it matters,
as if the world depends on it.

The Boothbay Region Democratic Committee (BRDC) welcomed more than 40 enthusiastic attendees to its Annual Meeting on Saturday, March 7 at the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Hall. This was a working meeting and a rallying point for Democrats who understand that progress does not happen on its own. With the midterm and gubernatorial elections in sight, local engagement, strong leadership, and collective action are essential.
The meeting commenced with the Pledge of Allegiance, led by a local Vietnam veteran. The Chair then called for a moment of silence in honor of the people on both sides who have lost their lives already in the conflict with Iran, and those at risk.
Attendees enjoyed an opportunity to socialize, speak with candidates, sign their ballot petitions, and donate to Maine Clean Elections funds. A portion of the meeting was dedicated to organizational business and planning for local events in the coming year. The business meeting was followed by remarks by Democratic candidates including Tiffany Roberts (U.S. House, District 1); Cameron Reny (Maine Senate, District 13); Charlotte Nutt (Maine House, District 48); Barbara Cray, (Sixth Prosecutorial District of Maine); Natasha Irving (Sixth Prosecutorial District of Maine); and Todd Brackett (Lincoln County Sheriff).
Maine Senator Cameron Reny (District 13) and Representative Holly Stover (District 48) reported on current and future initiatives taking place in the Maine Legislature, emphasizing the importance to maintain the positive changes made in the last eight years, and to staunch the negative effects of the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill” perpetrated by the Trump Administration on working class Mainers.
The BRDC serves constituents in Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Edgecomb, and Southport, with active members from all four municipalities. At a time when our democracy faces real challenges, the Boothbay Region Democratic Committee is calling on local Democrats to come together, organize, and prepare for the critical elections ahead. We strongly encourage our community to get involved in working towards the success of our values and our democracy in 2026.

I just heard, Sagadahoc Indivisible and Midcoast Youth Activities are planning a rally on the Sagadahoc Bridge on Monday the 2d of Feb. from 12:30-1:00.

Youth Activists are the ones we're dependent on to carry this torch into the future, please go to the rally if it is at all possible, and carpool if you can.

aren't even making any attempt to hide their goals of owning the U.S. government. All you have to do is donate a few million to trump or his family, and you have the ear of the president. This country is going to hell, and we can no longer sit idly by and accept that. Watch the Ken Burns documentary The American Revolution, and think about what those Founding Fathers did in reaction to a less tyrranical ruler than the one we elected last year.

The current concentration of wealth is unlike anything in history. So is billionaires’ involvement in politics.
