Tonight, our thoughts and prayers are with Chief Robert Roe's wife & family as well as his Fire Department Family. Our hearts are heavy following the loss of Chief Roe earlier today. His battle with cancer is over, but his Legacy will endure for ages.

Chief Roe began his journey of service as a Junior Firefighter at Bossier Parish Fire District #1. In the earlier years of his career, he even worked as a crew member at Bossier Parish EMS. But his true calling was to Fire District #1, where he worked his way to the top, where he became the Fire Chief, where he has led by example, and where he has gained the respect of so many.

Chief Roe, thank you for your time. Thank you for your friendship. And thank you for the years of honorable service to the people of Bossier Parish, Louisiana. Rest peacefully sir, you have left your department better than you found it. And as a result of your contributions, your little corner of the world you shared with others is a better place. Is there really anything greater that one could be asked to accomplish with their time they have on Earth?

Extreme Heat, Dry Conditions Prompt Burn Ban for Bossier Parish

The Bossier Parish Police Jury has issued a parish wide burn ban effective immediately at the request of parish fire chiefs due to extreme heat and a prolonged lack of rainfall across the area.
Officials say dry ground conditions and stressed vegetation have significantly increased the risk of wildfires and the rapid spread of outdoor fires.

โ€œWeโ€™re experiencing very dry ground and vegetative conditions,โ€ said Ian Snellgrove, director of the Bossier Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. โ€œThese conditions will remain and could worsen if we do not receive adequate rainfall in our area.โ€

Under the burn ban, all outdoor burning is prohibited throughout Bossier Parish until further notice. This includes campfires, burning in barrels and burn pits, and any other open burning activities.
Cooking on gas or charcoal grills is allowed, provided residents use caution and properly extinguish coals after use.

The burn ban will remain in effect until sufficient rainfall is received to alleviate the dry conditions and reduce the fire danger.

Let's keep our cool while summer turns up the dial! Here are a few friendly reminders to help everyone stay safe and smiling:

๐ŸŒž Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate! Keep that water bottle handy and sip oftenโ€”even before you feel thirsty. Let's skip the alcohol and heavy caffeine for now!

๐ŸŒž Spot Heat Exhaustion: If you or a friend start feeling dizzy, nauseous, or extra weak, it's time to find some sweet air conditioning and cool down right away.

๐ŸŒž Take Heat Stroke Seriously: This is a true emergency! Look out for confusion, a body temperature over 104ยฐF, or unconsciousness, and please **call 911** immediately.

๐ŸŒž Chase the Shade: Try to limit your time right under that blazing peak sun between 10 AM and 4 PM.

๐ŸŒž Look Out for Each Other: Keep a caring eye on our little ones, our cherished seniors, and our furry four-legged family members.

Stay safe and take care of one another out there!

Road Reconstruction Scheduled for McDade Road in Elm Grove

The Bossier Parish Highway Department will begin roadway reconstruction on a portion of McDade Road in Elm Grove starting Monday, July 6, 2026.

The project will involve the reconstruction of approximately 1,000 feet of roadway. This work is part of ongoing efforts to improve road conditions and enhance safety for motorists in the area.

Drivers should expect lane closures within the work zone while repairs are underway. Delays are possible, particularly during peak travel times. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and remain alert for construction crews, equipment, and traffic control personnel. The Project is expected to last for one week, weather permitting.

The Bossier Parish Highway Department urges all drivers to slow down, obey posted signage, and remain attentive while traveling through construction areas to ensure the safety of both workers and the public.

Residents and commuters are encouraged to plan ahead and allow additional travel time or consider alternate routes when possible.
