BPD Academy Recruit Class #67-26 recently completed the traditional class run beginning at the BPD Academy in Hyde Park and ending at BPD HQ at One Schroeder Plaza in Roxbury. The 11-mile run is symbolic of the distance the recruits have traveled during the 6-month training curriculum. Of course, we wish all of our new officers the best of health, happiness, safety and success at they join the ranks of one of the greatest police departments in the nation.

NEVER FORGET: Almost two centuries ago, the 1st Boston Police Officer was killed in the line of duty. His name was Ezekiel W. Hodsdon and he was shot and killed in East Boston on October 18, 1857. At the time of his death, he was 25-yrs-old and was survived by his wife and 10-day-old son. 169 years later, we renew our promise to never forget his service and sacrifice to our city.

THANK YOU FOR THANKING US: Every time she sees our officers safeguarding public events, like she did this morning at the Mission Hill Road Race, Councilor Erin Murphy always makes it a point to stop, approach and appreciate our officers and we certainly appreciate her for doing so.

Two of our officers suffered minor injuries earlier this evening while apprehending an emotionally disturbed individual who thought it was okay to intimidate and attack multiple community members around Blackstone Square in the South End. To be clear, never okay to hurt or harm our cops.

The misguided violence and hatred directed at police officers MUST STOP. Our hearts are heavy yet again. Officer Shane Seiber, 40, was shot and killed running towards the danger responding to a call for a man with a gun. There’s no punishment too swift or severe for any dirtbag who kills a cop. Seiber is survived by his wife and two children: a 7-yr-old boy and a 3-yr-old girl.
