We support Sen. Patrick O’Connor, the sponsor of Senate Bill 1216, which calls for a mandatory minimum 25-year sentence for anyone brazen and evil enough to shoot at police officers. The system is clearly broken and the days of normalizing violence against police officers MUST END. Senator O’Connor believes this week’s shooting on Memorial Drive was, not only predictable, but also avoidable. And, we couldn’t agree with him more. It’s never okay to hurt or harm police officers. And, if you try to shoot and kill a police officer, the punishment should be swift, severe and, at minimum, a 25-year mandatory sentence.
