Meet Owen, MEMA East's intern! Owen is studying for a dual major of Homeland Security and Justice Studies at the University of New Hampshire. Throughout the summer, he has learned from MEMA staff through hands-on projects, event shadowing, and field visits around the state and to partner agencies. Thank you to Owen for his contribution this summer and to all interns who support their agency's mission every day!

Secretary Kwon and Undersecretary Collins were proud to join Governor Healey, Lieutenant Governor Driscoll, legislators, district attorneys, law enforcement leaders, advocates, and survivors to celebrate two landmark changes to Massachusetts law that strengthen protections for survivors of sexual assault.

These changes close a loophole that allowed people in positions of authority to exploit 16- and 17-year-olds in their care and eliminate the statute of limitations in r**e cases when DNA evidence identifies the offender.

Thank you to the survivors whose courage and advocacy made these historic changes possible. Your voices are helping make Massachusetts safer for everyone.
