Help shape the future of walking and biking in the Boston region!

The MPO is working to identify gaps in our region’s walking and biking infrastructure as a first step in developing a regional active transportation plan. We need your help to pinpoint these gaps and help us understand how they affect your daily life. The survey will be open until July 30, 2026, and we expect to share a summary of the data collected later this year.

This week, we installed urban heat relief structures in Everett as part of our NO-HEAT project, an exciting step forward in addressing the growing risk of extreme heat in the Boston region.

In partnership with the City of Everett, Bike to the Sea, and the Mystic River Watershed Association, we installed shaded benches at hotspots along the Northern Strand Trail at 7-Acre Park to provide safe, cool spaces to rest. In the coming weeks, more cooling structures will be installed in Chelsea and Revere.

With NO-HEAT, we're exploring how extreme heat affects people who walk, bike, and roll throughout the region. Our high-resolution data identifies where heat and transportation intersect. In collaboration with local partners, we planned and designed pilot cooling strategies that will continue to be implemented this spring.
