Creighton’s summer takeaway? Good design is definitely not a solo sport. 👏

It takes communication, flexibility, teamwork, and a whole lot of people bringing different ideas to the table.
Not a bad way to spend an internship.

Thanks for hanging with our LDD team this summer, Creighton! 🌿

Wetlands know no borders. Neither does the work to protect them. 🌎🌿

This summer, BSC’s Gillian Davies took the Rights of Wetlands conversation from Massachusetts to Louisiana and across Europe, sharing ideas, learning from fellow wetland scientists, and getting out into the landscapes at the heart of the work.

From a 10,000-year-old peat bog in Czechia to Louisiana’s Barataria Bayou, this carousel has a little bit of everything: science, advocacy, history, field time, international collaboration, and yes, an alligator named Lily. 🐊

Follow Gillian’s journey and see where the Rights of Wetlands initiative has taken her this summer.

We’ll admit it, the BSC beetle fan club is alive and well. 🪲🌿

These little guys may be easy to miss, but they can tell us a lot about a site. Rare species often rely on very specific habitat conditions, which means knowing what to look for in the field really matters.

Our environmental team keeps an eye out for those details early so sensitive habitats can be considered and potential impacts minimized as projects move forward.

Lucy’s summer office had a pretty great view. 🌲🦇

Her internship took her out of the usual routine and into the field, where a day’s work could mean hiking through the woods, learning something completely new, or getting a better idea of what she might want her future career to look like.

That’s kind of the point of an internship, right? Try things. Ask questions. Find out what clicks.

We loved having Lucy along for the adventure this summer and are excited to see where she takes it from here.

Training days do not always come with dry socks. 🌧️

BSC’s Julia O’Hara recently led fellow staff members Evan Fox, Conor Gilbertson, and Jon Monderer through the North Atlantic Aquatic Connectivity Collaborative (NAACC) culvert assessment training in the field. The team evaluated inlet and outlet conditions, substrate, slope, flow, and other factors that affect aquatic passage.

A culvert can move water while still blocking passage for migrating fish species, salamanders, turtles, and other wildlife. 🐟 Meanwhile, those same conditions can raise the risk of flooding, erosion, and roadway damage.

Each assessment receives a passability score and is added to the regional NAACC database, helping communities prioritize which crossings to replace.

Evan, Conor, and Jon have now earned their NAACC Non-Tidal Streams Protocol Certification and NAACC Culvert Condition Protocol Certification — giving BSC three certified assessors ready to support this work. 🏗️

We’ve officially unpacked in Hyannis… and yes, the view really is that good. 🌊

BSC’s Cape Cod team has a new place to call home, giving us an even stronger local presence and bringing us closer to the clients, partners, and communities we work with across the Cape.

So far, the new office has a lot going for it: meetings by the water, a fully stocked snack situation, plenty of room to collaborate… and one pretty great full-circle story.

Longtime BSC team member Kieran Healy, PLS, CFM, Senior Associate and Land Surveyor, first came to this very address in 1985, when his first job in the U.S. was painting the hotel that once stood on the property. More than four decades later, he’s back at the same spot — this time at BSC’s new Cape Cod office.

We have a feeling we’re going to like it here. 💙

Planning a trip to the Cape? 🚘🚍🚆🚘✈

Here are 5 local spots worth the visit:
🍽️ Love Farms
🏩 Pelham House
🌊 Wicked Waves Cape Cod
🏖️ Popponesset Inn
🍭 Cuffy's

Five spots, one thing in common: BSC was behind the scenes on each.

Save this for your next trip down the Cape.

Field days, vernal pool surveys, salamanders, tadpoles and plenty of learning along the way. 🌿

Bernadette came away from her internship at BSC with more confidence in her work, a stronger sense of how to advocate for the opportunities that interest her, and a new appreciation for her own resilience.

We’re proud of everything Bernadette accomplished this summer and excited to see where her career takes her next!

Here’s to more field days, more discoveries, and plenty more vernal pools in her future! 💚

Becoming a Professional Engineer takes years of education, experience, mentorship, problem-solving, and plenty of determination. It also comes with a big responsibility: making thoughtful decisions that protect the public and help build stronger, more resilient communities. 👷‍♀️👷‍♂️

Today, we’re celebrating the licensed PEs across BSC, and cheering on the future PEs putting in the work to get there.

Swipe through to meet a few members of our team, learn what the journey looks like, and pick up some advice along the way.

Happy National PE Day! 🎉
