Thank you to the residents of Braintree, Bridgewater, Easton, Milton, Randolph, Stoughton, and West Bridgewater It has been my honor to serve you as Your Massachusetts State Senator. I have never forgotten during my tenure at the Massachusetts State House, that I work for you. On January 1st, I shall be concluding my time in the Senate and move on, transitioning to my new post as Clerk of Courts for Norfolk County. I’ve often said that the greatest professional privilege of my life has been serving in the House and Senate, the greatest personal privilege of my life is to be the son of Walter and Marcia Timilty. My parents told me when I sought elected office, that, win or lose, I would meet great people. How right they were. Thank you, all, so very much.

On this Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, I attend a solemn ceremony aboard the USS Salem at the Quincy Shipyard in conjunction with both the Quincy and Braintree Veterans Services.

“Yesterday, December 7, 1941 — a date which will live in infamy — the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan." - President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

On that Sunday morning, 83years ago, the Imperial Japanese Navy launched an unprovoked, surprise attack upon units of the Armed Forces of the United States stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. This attack claimed the lives of 2,403 Americans, wounded 1,178 more, and damaged our naval capabilities in the Pacific. Such destruction seared the memory of a generation and galvanized the will of the American people in a fight to maintain our right to freedom without fear.

Today, and everyday we remember and honor those brave Americans who perished during that attack.

🚨 With the sole exception of the Cape and Islands, the entire Commonwealth is now at critical drought level 3. Relatedly, wildfires are burning across the state and more land has been burnt in Massachusetts since October 1 than is usually seen in an entire year.

🔴 Accordingly, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation has issued a temporary ban on all open flame and charcoal fires in state parks, effective until further notice.

🔴 All yard waste burning is prohibited statewide through January. Roughly 200 of our municipalities have implemented local bans on any outdoor fires whatsoever, pursuant to Section 10.10.2 of the State Fire Code.

🔴 Bay Staters should aggressively conserve water and avoid outdoor flames and cooking, includes firepits and grills. In addition to the negative environmental risks and ramifications, as State Fire Marshal Jon Davine reminds us, “[e]very firefighter battling a preventable wildfire is one who can’t respond to a house fire, car crash, or medical emergency.”

Meanwhile, I would like to extend an additional thank you from my message yesterday to Norfolk County Control, East Bridgewater Fire Department, Medway Fire Department, and Holbrook Regional Emergency Communications Center for their support and mutual aid to Milton Fire Local 1116 in the brush fire containment efforts at the Blue Hills Reservation in Milton. Be safe and thank you for what you do.

Thank you to Milton Fire Chief Chris Madden, members of the Milton Fire Department, and all the fire departments from around the region who are all working hard right now to contain a serious brush fire in the Blue Hills Reservation in Milton.

The fire started last night and has quickly grown to more than 40 acres off Hillside Street, near Houghton’s Pond. Hillside Street in the Blue Hills Reservation is closed until further notice as fire crews continue to work on extinguishing brush across 40 acres of the 7,000-acre property managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.

To the public: please stay clear of the area so that firefighters can do their job.

To our firefighters, please stay safe.

Today, , we honor the women and men of the United States Armed Forces. These brave and honorable veterans have willingly and proudly answered the call of duty protecting both the liberty and freedoms that you and I enjoy as citizens of the United States of America.

We recognize their valor and sacrifices. For this very reason, Veterans Day is one of the most important days on our national calendar. To be clear, we are honoring the women and men of our Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, and National Guard.

We say thank you. Thank you for putting on that uniform, standing your post, and putting yourself in harm’s way for our great nation.
