Minuteman Advisory Group on Interlocal Coordination (MAGIC) is a group sponsored by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC). Its purpose is to provide a forum for the thirteen communities northwest of Boston to work collaboratively on issues of regional concern. Established as a growth management committee in 1984, it has become a respected voice in regional decision-making. The group focuse

s on transportation, the environment, energy, open space, affordable housing, economic and community development, and legislative issues. It provides leadership on planning issues vital to the region's future by:

- Pursuing grants and in-depth studies on topics of local and regional interest. Hosting annual meetings with legislators.
- Organizing forums, workshops, and trainings on local and regional planning issues.
- Providing a forum for member communities to exchange ideas and provide updates on developments, challenges, and solutions in their towns. MAGIC consists of representatives from the following thirteen communities: Acton, Bedford, Bolton, Boxborough, Carlisle, Concord, Hudson, Lexington, Lincoln, Littleton, Maynard, Stow, and Sudbury.
..

The Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) is the regional planning agency for Metropolitan Boston. Our charge: use planning to improve the region's livability -- its prosperity, safety, health, and distinctive character. To that end, we offer to the municipalities in our region a wide range of planning services and group purchasing opportunities; and we act as a regional think tank, providing data, analysis, advocacy and a range of convening and collaborative opportunities.

Opportunity: SolSmart

At the recent November 3rd MAGIC Meeting, we heard about SolSmart.

Consider applying for SolSmart designation to encourage solar energy in your community.

SolSmart offers a new opportunity for communities to receive national recognition for their efforts to reduce the cost of solar and promote solar market maturity. By achieving SolSmart designation, municipal governments signal to the solar industry that they are open for solar business. The program offers no-cost technical assistance from a team of experienced national solar experts to help cities and counties nationwide accelerate their transition to clean, reliable solar energy and thereby qualify for designation. Communities may join the program and receive technical assistance on a rolling basis.
