My Life My Choice

My Life My Choice We provide comprehensive, survivor-led, and evidence-based programs and training to end the commercial sexual exploitation of children. https://linktr.ee/mlmc

In 2001, a young Boston woman was brutally murdered while being commercially sexually exploited. She was 17 years old and living in a Department of Children and Families (DCF) funded group home. Unbeknownst to any of the caring adults in her life (her family, her DCF worker, the group home staff), she was being sold for sex. Following her death, city leaders came together to ask "was this an isola

ted incident or the tip of the iceberg?” We quickly learned it was the tip of the iceberg. Out of Latasha's death, My Life My Choice was born. My Life My Choice’s fervent conviction is that no one should be bought or sold. It is our daily fight — our strategic and urgent endeavor. Our holistic, battle-tested approach is grounded in survivor experiences of those who have lived the ugly realities of exploitation and come back fierce, wise, and strong. The central goals of our work are to:

• Empower youth to protect themselves from the commercial sex industry and its predators;
• Support survivors in rebuilding their lives, finding their voice, and becoming leaders; and
• Educate and mobilize a powerful network of allies to prevent exploitation. Since 2002, we have successfully trained over 21,900 youth providers in Massachusetts and nationally, have provided prevention education to more than 3,800 girls, and mentored over 900 youth of all genders in Eastern Massachusetts. We have trained facilitators on our Prevention Curriculum in 36 states, Washington D.C., and Canada. In 2021, we launched a bold new three-year strategic plan to deepen and expand our local and national impact.

Men have an important role to play in preventing the commercial s*xual exploitation of children—and it starts with awareness, accountability, and action.

Join the My Life My Choice Male Allies Initiative for the launch of our first webinar and brand-new training.

This training brings together research and data, firsthand survivor experiences, and actionable strategies to help participants:

• Recognize exploitation and the factors that enable it
• Challenge harmful norms and behaviors
• Support prevention efforts at home and in their communities
• Better understand the role men can play in creating meaningful change

While this training is geared toward men, all are welcome to join the conversation and be part of the solution.

"Do not think that this is just something that it’s going to leave after FIFA. This is a fight that we’ve been fighting for a long time. Now, with the internet and all these different sites, it has made it even harder to track the victims of exploitation” - Audrey Morrissey

We are proud to be a part of the state’s coordinated efforts to combat trafficking during the World Cup and ensure all victims receive needed care and services.
