Ellis Early Learning Ellis partners with families to provide high quality early childhood education and school age program

Ellis partners with families to provide high quality early childhood education and out-of-school programs in a warm, nurturing environment. A recognized leader in our field, we support children across the socio-economic spectrum, treasure diversity in all forms, and celebrate the joy of childhood. We were founded in 1885 as one of Boston’s first settlement houses. Located in poor urban areas, sett

lement houses were led and staffed by volunteers and patrons who had the time and financial resources to help improve the living conditions of working families living in poverty. Education was one of the most important services they provided. Throughout our history, we have maintained the commitment and philosophy of the settlement house movement to build a stronger community by addressing the unmet needs of our city’s working families, especially with regard to education. Ellis programs are located in two historic buildings we own at 58 and 66 Berkeley Street in Boston’s South End.

In a new story from the Boston Globe, Ellis CEO, Lauren Cook, shared how Ellis is navigating new guidance while continuing to support children and families, and the very real challenges our educators face.

Ellis recently lost two beloved teachers due to work authorization issues. This work is personal. These stories matter.

An educator’s gentle care fosters a deep sense of connection, creating a space where a child feels safe, seen, and free to be themselves. We are so grateful for our incredible team of Ellis educators!

Our little ones love to stop and observe the MBTA trains as they go by! 🚆

These small pauses help build observation skills, language, and curiosity. By slowing down to look at the world around us, we can create space for thinking and conversation.

It’s a simple routine that turns everyday moments into opportunities for learning!

We were proud to join the Massachusetts STEM Summit at UMass Lowell’s NERVE Center! Ellis CEO Lauren Cook spoke about applied learning and the importance of early STEM education. Through hands-on, play-based experiences, our toddlers and preschoolers are building problem-solving skills, creativity, and confidence. These early moments shape how children see themselves, and what they believe is possible. A stronger, more inclusive STEM workforce starts here.
