Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's vision for equality, was rooted in nonviolent action and led to sweeping changes in civil rights laws. But his leadership was built on the courage of Black WWII veterans like Medgar Evers, whose fight for justice after returning home helped spark the movement. The 67th Evacuation Hospital played a crucial role during WWII, offering emergency care to thousands of soldiers. Activated in 1942, the unit trained relentlessly under challenging conditions, quickly becoming a vital part of the war effort. In 1944, they treated over 4,600 patients, performing hundreds of surgeries despite intense conditions. After multiple deployments across Europe, the hospital closed in November 1945 and its personnel made their way back to the U.S., with the unit officially deactivating in January 1946.
