The Soldiers Fund made a grant to the Fisher House Hotel Program, which is unique to the Boston Fisher House. Owing to the plethora of world-class hospitals in Boston, the Hotel Program allows active duty members of the military or veterans to stay in a Boston hotel, free of charge, while one of their family members is receiving care.Fisher House Foundation builds comfort homes where military & veterans families can stay free of charge, while an active member or veteran of the U.S. Military is in the hospital. These homes are located at military and VA medical centers around the world.

Grant Highlight - ABF, The Soldiers Charity, Andy ReidIn 2009, while on patrol with the 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment in Afghanistan, Corporal Andy Reid stood on a pressure plate Improvised Explosive Device (IED). As a result of the explosion, he lost his right leg below the knee, left leg above the knee, and right arm.

The Soldiers Fund provided a grant to The Soldiers’ Charity who immediately made arrangements for alterations to Andy’s house. A new wheelchair ramp, modifications to the front entrance of his home, and a bed on the first floor have helped Andy live comfortably in his own home.Since then,

The Soldiers’ Charity’s relationship with Andy has continued to develop; when he moved into a new home, it funded the cost for a floor lift so he could gain access around the entire house. A new wet room for his bathroom help makes life that little bit easier in coping with his injuries. In turn, Andy has become a passionate Ambassador for The Soldiers’ Charity, helping to raise funds and awareness.

The Soldiers Fund made a grant toward Home Base’s Intensive Clinical Program (ICP), which is an outpatient treatment program that combines evidence-based medicine with complementary and alternative medicine in a concentrated fashion. Patients receive roughly 50 hours of individual and group therapy. What would normally take up to a year in a traditional course of treatment is condensed into a two-week program, allowing Veterans who are dealing with invisible wounds to be put on a path of success that will complement their ongoing care in their hometowns.

At the Old North Church, the location from which the famous "One if by land, two if by sea" signal is said to have been sent during Paul Revere's historic ride from Boston to Concord on the verge of the American Revolutionary War, stands a memorial that pays tribute to all U.S. lives lost during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Visited by hundreds of thousands of tourists a year, the Church wanted to bring greater attention to the memorial and its significance by installing a bronze plaque to educate visitors of the memorials meaning.

The Soldiers Fund was approached by the Church to provide a grant to pay for the plaque. Additionally, the Church invited the Soldiers Fund to install a bronze poppy wreath to recognize British and Commonwealth lives lost in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.
