At 10 AM on Friday May 5, 2023, a man called into the US Attorney’s Office ranting & swearing. He used my name, called me a Bitch & said he was coming in with a sh***un. My colleagues waited 5+ hrs to tell me & suggested I call BPD. I had gone outside for lunch completely unaware and could have been killed. No protocols were followed & no protections were offered for my family.
That is the day that I decided to resign. Because who stays and fights for a job when your “colleagues” do not care whether you and your children live or die? This was my 3rd confirmed death threat since being nominated to be United States Attorney in July 2021.
When I asked if the US Marshals & FBI had been notified, I was told they had not been. I told them to notify the appropriate federal authorities and to document the incident.
After asking both men to leave my office, I began packing up my personal belongings and brought a box down to my car. I was done. Scared, unprotected, profoundly disappointed and completely exhausted.
As I sat in interviews recently and read articles written about me, people question the impact of these confirmed death threats. Some even question whether they happened and if I was making them up.
I find it fascinating that white women are allowed to murder multiple children and receive droves of support, while Black women are threatened with murder and blamed, vilified or completely ignored.
